GABRIEL LAURENT BORDELON: The first Bordelon in Louisiana was born in Le Havre, France on 25 October 1696 and baptized the next day at the Church of Notre Dame, Le Havre, France.

Laurent, as he was called in Louisiana, was the son of Jean Baptiste Thomas Bordelon and Magdeleine de Brachon. Jean Baptiste was "controlleur de vivres de la marine" at the porte of Le Havre. This term "de vivres" refers to supply, subsistence, and commissary functions of the Navy.

By 1711 JEAN BAPTISTE BORDELON was employed at the port of Rochefort, France as "directeur des vivres do la marine" of that port. From letters of the court the 1711 to 1712 in the Archives of the Port of Rochefort, it appears that Bordelon had left his wife at Le Havre.

In 1719 Dame Magdeleine de Richouf, wife of Jean Baptiste Thomas Bordelon, successfully sued her husband for separation of the assets of their community.

LAURENT BORDELON, son of Jean Baptiste Bordelon, was married at Saint Louis Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana on 20 February 1730 to Anne Francoise Roland. In the record of this marriage, Laurent is described as an employee of the company. He names his parents as Jean Baptiste Bordelon and Henriette Rochechouart. It is possible that his father was married for a third time, and Henriette was the step-mother of Laurent.

Anne Francoise Roland was a native of Saint Germain l'Aurerois Parish, Paris, France. In the marriage record she names her parents as Jean Baptiste Roland and Jeanne Bonnet. Anne Francoise Roland came to Louisiana in 1719. She is named on the passenger list of the vessel "Mutine".

At the time of her marriage to Laurent Bordelon, Anne was the widow of Nicolas Sarrazin and the mother of three sons: Michel Sarrazin, who died at Pointe Coupee on 20 July 1746 at the age of eighteen; Antoine Sarrazin who later married Marie Colon on 26 June 1747 at Pointe Coupee; and Francoise Sarrazin who was at Arkansas in 1745 and later married there.

Apparently Laurent Bordelon and his wife, Anne, went from New Orleans to Natchez Post shortly after their marriage and their first son, Nicolas, was born there in late 1730. The second child, Antoine, was born in New Orleans in 1733, indicating a return to New Orleans by the family.

LAURENT BORDELON died prior to February 1737. The records of his burial is not available. However, his widow, Anne Francoise Roland, married (her 3rd) Jean Stephan, called Roquancourt, a native of Basse Bretagne, France, at Pointe Coupee on February 1737.

Of this third marriage of Anne were born two daughters, Anne Stephan (born 1 October 1738) and Petronille Stephan (born 9 May 1742), both at Pointe Coupee. The two Bordelon brothers, Nicolas and Antoine, ages 15 and 12, were shown in the household of their step-father and mother in the Pointe Coupee census of 1745. Anne Francoise Roland died at Pointe Coupee on 8 January 1758.

NICOLAS BORDELON I: Nicolas Bordelon I, born in 1730 and died 8 September 1769, son of Laurent Bordelon and Anne Francoise Roland, married at Pointe Coupe on 2 June 1753 to Adrienne Rondot, daughter of Jean Rondot and Marie Colon. The Rondots were both natives of France, Marie Colon from Dauphine, Diocese of Grenoble, France.

At the time of this marriage to Nicolas Bordelon I, Adrienne Rondot was the widow of Etienne Patin, whom she had married 21 May 1747 at Pointe Coupee. A month later Adrienne's mother, Marie Colon, now widowed, married Antoine Sarrazin, Nicolas Bordelon's half-brother.

Of the marriage of Nicolas Bordelon I and Adrienne Rondot there were seven (7) children, all born at Pointe Coupee:

....1. ANNE (ANA) BORDELON: Born 23 March 1754. Married 14 May 1770 to Joseph Roy II, son of Joseph Roy I and Perrine Lacour. We have record of only one child:

.........a. Vallerie Roy, born Oct 1780. Married 1 Oct 1804 to Bridgit Nezat, daughter of Pierre Nezat and Magdaleine Provost. We know of 9 children:

.............(1) Pierre Ulger Roy, born 28 May 1807.
.............(2) Marie Delphine Roy, born 17 Jan 1808.

(b) Arvillien Rider born 7 Sep 1848 and married on 1 May 1869 to Divine Hollier. (c) Marie Celise Rider born 15 Aug 1839 and married on 3 Jan 1860 to Ozeme Moreau. (d) Jean Baptiste Emile Rider.

....2. PERRINE BORDELON: Baptized 7 September 1755. Married Jacques Roy, called Noel Roy, also a son of Joseph Roy and Perrine Lacour.

....3. ADRIENNE BORDELON: Married 30 November 1774 to Joseph Mayeux, son of Pierre Francois Mayeux and Nicole Provost of Point Coupee.

....4. JULIENNE BORDELON: Born 2 May 1761. Married 4 June 1776 to Jean Baptiste Mayeux, brother of Joseph Mayeux above.

....5. NICOLAS BORDELON II: Born 22 January 1765. Married 15 February 1787 to Marie Louise Mariono, daughter of Louis Mariono and Marie LaGue. He settled in the Grand Louis area of Opelousas Post.

Marie Louise died 9 November 1788 while giving birth to her daughter, Marie, who survived. Nicolas Bordelon II, widower, married in 1792 at Opelousas to Eugenie Dupre, daughter of Laurent Dupre (Du Pres D'Arbonne) and Marie Josephe Fontenot. They had twelve (12) children. Three of these moved to Avoyelles:

.........a. Caroline Bordelon;

.........b. Leandre Bordelon; Born 24 September 1814.

.........c. Joseph Bordelon; Born 1 December 1794.

....6. MICHEL BORDELON: Born 22 October 1766. Married 5 July 1787 at Opelousas to Marie Vaible, daughter of Joseph Vaible and Suzanne Vincent.

....7. HYPOLITE BORDELON: Born 30 January 1769. Married 26 January 1795 at Natchitoches Post to Marie Therese Trichel, daughter of Emile Trichel and Marie Louise Grappe of Natchitoches. Of this marriage were born eight (8) children and many grandchildren.

Adrienne Rondot died at Opelousas 8 January 1808. Thus, it is seen that the influence of Nicolas Bordelon's I children on Avoyelles history and genealogy was through the Mayeux family and three other children of Nicolas II (Leandre, Caroline, and Joseph).

NICOLAS BORDELON II: It has been pointed out that the sons of Nicolas were not among the early settlers of Avoyelles. Hence, the sons of Antoine were responsible for the name Bordelon in colonial Avoyelles. However, three (3) of the twelve children of Nicolas Bordelon II and Eugenie Dupre of Opelousas were residents of Avoyelles after marriage and prominent in their own generation. These three (3) were Caroline Bordelon, Leandre Bordelon, and Joseph Bordelon.

....1. CAROLINE BORDELON: Married Dominique Coco II, widower of Zoe Juneau at Opelousas in 1824. Dominique and Zoe Juneau had seven (7) children of their marriage (his first). He and Caroline had seven (7) more:

.........a. Adolph D. Coco; married (1) Eloise Sheldon, widow of his nephew Aurelien Coco Jr. and daughter of William Sheldon and Melazie LeDoux. Married (2) Josephine Moncla, daughter of Dr. Joseph T. Moncla and Arsene Bordelon.

.........g. Eugenia Coco; died at age 15.
