The Silent Lover--Sir Walter Raleigh

Passions are liken'd best to floods and streams:
The shallow murmur, but the deep are dumb;
So, when affection yields discourse, it seems
The bottom is but shallow whence they come.
They that are rich in words, in words discover
That they are poor in that which makes a lover.

Wrong not, sweet empress of my heart,
The merit of true passion,
With thinking that he feels no smart,
That sues for no compassion.
Than words, though ne'er so witty:
A beggar that is dumb, you know,
May challenge double pity.

Then wrong not, dearest to my heart,
My true, though secret passion;
He smarteth most that hides his smart,
And sues for no compassion.

Sonnet from the Portuguese, XIV--Elizabeth Barrett Browning

If thou must love me, let it be for nought
Except for love's sake only. Do not say
'I love her for her smile--her look--her way
Of speaking gently,--for a trick of thought
That falls in well with mine, and certes brought
A sense of pleasant ease on such a day'--
For these things in themselves, Beloved, may
Be changed, or change for thee,--and love, so wrought,
May be unwrought so. Neither love me for
Thine own dear pity's wiping my cheeks dry,--
A creature might forget to weep, who bore
Thy comfort long, and lose thy love thereby !
But love me for love's sake, that evermore
Thou mayst love on, through love's eternity.

"The Song of Songs: A New Translation"
by Ariel and Chana Bloch

...Bind me as a seal upon your heart,
a sign upon your arm,

for love is as fierce as death,
its jealousy bitter as the grave.

Even its sparks are a raging fire,
a devouring flame.

Great seas cannot extinguish love,
no river can sweep it away.

If a man tried to buy love
with all the wealth of his house,

he would be despised.

I Was Reminded
by Alicia S

As we lay there quiet
I was reminded of all the reasons why I lust you
Your smile,
and the way it teased at me seductively
Your laugh,
and the way it tempted me
Your eyes,
and the way they seem to hypnotize me

As we sat there silent
I was reminded of all the reasons why I love you
Your smile,
and the way it brings such life into me
Your laugh,
and the way it makes everything okay
Your eyes,
and the way them seems to read my thoughts

As we stand here now
I am reminded of all the reasons why I hate you
Your smile,
and the way it confuses me
Your laugh,
and the way it seems to mock me
Your eyes,
and the way they can look into mine and not feel a thing

on a more personal note...

Some gals wanna hear jist how much they're wanted.
They'll try lil *pouts*, thangs to make yer heart haunted.
But I know a gal who'll leave ya fer BreathlesS
And git ya to thinkin and then leavin ya restless.
It can happen real fast or over a period of time
And knock ya far worse then salt, tequila and lime.
At first she seemed safe and harmless as a kitten
Then all a sudden ya find goll dang it yer smitten!
Ya think that no problem, only a girl after all
But 'fore ya can help it, yer given her a call.
Talkin can go on quite late 'till near dawn;
How d'it happen ya ask "How'd I git so far gone"?
Don't laugh and scoff at this tale 'cause its true.
It done happened to me and could happen to you....

Patience

Have patience with your child today
She's such a precious one.
Don't let frustrations get in your way,
Learn to hold your tongue.
Patience is a virtue you've heard.
So always take the time,
To reason and explain to her
The things that trouble her mind.

Have patience with your little child.
Treat her gently every day.
Because a child grows up in time,
And in time grows away.
From the loving arms that held her,
And calmed her fears at night,
Have patience with your little child,
While she's still within your sight.
