Paint Shop Pro FAQ:

Q. When I select an item, the selection isn't being surrounded by those moving dots (the marquee). Can I fix this?
A. Yes, if you are not getting a marquee selection (or marching ants-as it's referred to) you need an updated version of the file MFC42.DLL which you can download form Jasc. This is a caused by a missing, incorrect, or corrupted version of the MFC42.DLL file.

Q. I'm having problems installing my new Photoshop Plugins or getting them to work... any suggestions?
A. This is because another program replaced a file the MSVCRT10.DLL file or it's not there at all. Download this file and use WinZip to unzip the file and copy it to your c:\windows\system folder. If you alread have a version of this file on your system, then you can rename that version-not delete-the older version and then copy this new msvcrt10.dll to the directory. How do I rename it? Click on your Start Button/Find/Files or Folders and in the File Name: Box type MSVCRT10.DLL and click on the Search Now button. When it finds that file right-click on it and choose Rename and rename it to MSVCRT10.DLX.

Q. My toolbars are Invisible or Missing inside PSP, what's wrong and how can I fix this?
A. This is a problem with the MFC or "Microsoft Foundation Classes" used by an earlier version of the Programming Language used to create versions 4.0 and 4.1 of Paint Shop Pro.
You can resolve this problem by downloading the correct Patch at Jasc.

Q. How come my Image is all Grainy and Ugly Looking?
A.Your Video Card or Driver probably doesn't support a higher enough resolution to show the image correctly. The graininess is caused by Dithering. PSP Dithers images that contain more colors than your Video system can display. Dithering provides the best possible color approximation. PSP keeps the original (Undithered) Image in memory. If you edit the image, the change is applied to the Original Image and a New (Dithered) Image is created and displayed with your changes. You can prevent this by downloading Jasc's Custom Netscape Palette that conforms to the 216 limit on browsers.

Q. I cannot Select any Special Effects, Filters, Deformations etc... What's going on?
A. You have to increase your Color Depth by Clicking Colors/Increase Color Depth to 16 million colors or on same menu convert to 8 bit greyscale, or you might not have Selections (is there any moving dashes in your work area-marching ants as some people refer to them?) If you don't see any marching ants then that means nothing is selected and these option will not be available.

Q. How do I let PSP know that I installed some Filters?
A. Click on File/Preferences/General Program Preferences/Plugin Filters Tab and Browse to location of you plugins. This is usually a Plugin directory under the program directory. It will then start to install the filters.

Q. What are some of the other programs that you use or can recommend?
A. For graphics I primarily use Paint Shop Pro. I also use Eyecandy and Kai's Power Tools with PSP for really easy & cool effects. Yes, I do also own Photoshop and do use it for really detailed images-- You really can't bear the Layers feature of Photoshop (Jasc are you reading this?)
Here's a list of the other Programs I use for creating and managing images and working on web pages:
GOMER HTML Editor for creating pages.
    SnagIt for my Screen Captures.
Thumbs Plus and ACDSee for my Image Viewers.
(ACDSee is much faster for viewing images but Thumbs Plus has many more features for organizing images.)
Picaview by the same makers of ACDSee for image viewing.
(Picaview adds itself the Windows 95 right-click menu and lets you view it instantly. It also gives the size and type        and gives you the option to Open It, Print It, Make it your wallpaper, and Convert it to or from GIF, BMP, or         JPEG.)
ClipMate allows you to save multiple Pastes on the clipboard. Comes in handy creating HTML.
Coffee Cup Image Mapper for creating you guessed it Image Maps.
GIF Construction Set for making Transparent and Animated GIF's.
