I'm very pleased to have played in this year's KNON 89.3 FM Blues Festival! We are currently booking only private engagements and festival dates... Give me a call at 972-814-7428 for prices and terms for your entertainment needs.

Email me for details on buying our CD -- "Live at The BONE - 8/10/2000".

Anyways... I'm "Big Jim" Wells, originally from Ithaca, New York (1950 to 1978) and from Dallas, Texas (1979 to the present). I'm the founder, guitarist/slide guitarist/harp player, and one of a few vocalists in the band.

The music The Nightowls play includes generally Blues, Texas Blues (yes, there is a difference!), R&B, a few of what we think are the best of old and classic rock & roll tunes, and other "stuff" (a technical term, "stuff") that you might ask us to do. The band has from two to as many as ten, or so, musicians (depending on venue and how we configure our horn section). I'm on guitar, slide guitar, harp and vocals, Jon Griffin is fantastic on guitar and vocals, and various other fine folks comprise our rhythm section, horns, and keyboards.

Again, for booking information, call me at 972-814-7428 or email me at jwells@iadfw.net.

Who doesn't LOVE Muddy Waters!!!

Please pay attention here.

Richard Chalk, the owner of TopCat Records in Dallas, Texas -- at great personal financial risk -- has procured a live concert (BOTH AUDIO CD and VIDEO TAPE!!!) that has NEVER BEEN HEARD BEFORE of Muddy Waters performed in 1971 and featuring George 'Harmonica' Smith.

These are true "lost tapes" that were recently found. Muddy Waters has been dead a long time now but these are the sort of tapes that help bring him back to us all.

These recordings also include a rare audio interview with Muddy Waters (Mckinley Morganfield) himself.

TopCat has come up with something here that the major record labels would love to have, but they don't... You can purchase the CD and video by contacting Richard Chalk at

TopCat Records

I make no money from this and really don't want any from it. Richard has stuck his neck out to get this fine -- even definitive -- recording of one of the original, amazing, and powerful bluesmen of all time.

If you like or love blues, you really need to buy the CD and video. There aren't many copies at present so you might consider not wasting a lot of time on this...

I'm also a painter of portraits (usually in oils but some in pencil/graphite, as well) and other motifs such as landscapes, abstracts, and expressionistic images... Smearing paint is good.
