Cajun Heritage

When you mention the word "Cajun" anywhere in the world today, the first thing that comes to the mind of those around you is FOOD. And rightfully so. Cause the Cajuns have had many years a practice creating and improving on the recipes of the South Louisiana area. I can remember not too many years ago, when I would say something to one on my foriegn (Texas, Arkansas and the like) friends about eating crawfish or crabs, and they would just about fall out of their chairs. Now, you can't go to any major city in the United States, without finding a "Cajun" restaurant. But, being raised in Louisiana, and having professional cooks in the family, has spoiled me. I've tried some of the food at these so-called "Cajun" restaurants, and I hate to be the one that has to break it to you, but most of those places are only Cajun in name. I'm not sure if it's the recipe, the cook, or the feeling that goes into it, but it's just not the real thing. I've got a list of recipes here, that I know for a fact meet all the above criteria, and they are gonna make your belly dance!

Y'all come on over to the Recipe page, and catcha some food like mama used to make...and, as a mater of fact, she still does!

Now, of course foods not the only thing in life. It's gonna be way ahead of whats in second place, but it ain't all. If you ever been down to South Louisiana, you know those people like to party! Les le Bon temps rouleau! That ain't just a sayin down there, it's a way of life! I bet there ain't a town in South Louisiana that doesn't have at least one festival each year. Whether it's the Frog Fest in Rayne, the lanippie fest in Chauvin and te Caiou, or the French Food fest in Cut Off. And everyone knows about Mardi Gras! Two weeks of sin so ya can have something to stay away from for Lint. Ya I tell ya, them Cajuns know how to throw a party! And it's not some NEW thing that those youngsters thought up either! They been having those boucherees and fa do do's since the pirougue was the only way to get to town. If you want to learn a little more about some of those festivals, come on over to the Festival page, and see what you're missin out on right now!

Well, we've talked about the food, and talked about the fun. Now I guess we have to talk a little bit about the music! What party would be complete without the music! Cajun music today ain't quite the same as it was a few years back, but it's all good to my ears. Come on over to the Cajun Music page, and take a listen!

This site is dedicated to South Louisiana Food, Fun, and Culture. And to my Family and it's Cajun Heritage!
