2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. shortening
1 chicken, boiled in water to cover, picked from bones
Broth from cooked chicken
Cut the shortening into the flour and salt til well blended.
Roll out the dough on a well-floured surface til very thin.Use plenty of flour to keep from sticking.(Helps thicken broth)
Cut into squares using pizza cutter or very sharp knife,dipped in flour.
Bring the broth and chicken to a boil and drop dumplings in one at a time to prevent sticking together.
Cook over low heat til dumplings are firm.

To make a chicken pie, make an extra batch of dough, using a little extra shortening.
Make the dumplings as above and place in a baking dish.
Roll out the extra dough and fit to the top of the dumplings,
making sure to cover well and tuck ends next to the sides of the dish.
Brown in a 400-degree F oven.
