The EMANON Jazz Orchestra is a new youth jazz big band in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, formed in the summer of 2006. The founders saw a need for the existence of a group that allowed talented high school and college musicians to have an additional performance outlet outside of their respective schools during the summer months. The band is directed by Marc Cervantes, Director of Bands at Molina High School in Dallas, and Kevin McNerney, Associate Professor of Music at Collin County Community College in Plano. EMANON (read it backwards; it's a tribute to a Dizzy Gillespie tune, along with the fact that we had trouble coming up with another name) meets every Thursday afternoon from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. during the months of June, July and the first part of August. Rehearsals are held at Molina High School, 2355 Duncanville Rd. in Dallas. Membership is by invitation only; the directors solicit recommendations from band directors and private instructors in the area, as well as from other members of the ensemble. EMANON presented its first concert on Friday, August 4, 2006 in the Molina auditorium.
