Detroit

This is the title track from his 1993 CD (Evidence Records, but originally issued on Blue Suit Records). It's really a version of the classic "sweet home Chicago" except, of course, Eddie's home town is Detroit...

Come on, you always said you wanted to go
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit

Come on, you always said you wanted to go
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit

One and one is two, two and two is four
Now you tryin' to tell me that you don't love me no more
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit

Two and two is four, four and two is six
Baby I believe you're up to your same old tricks
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit

Come on, you always said you wanted to go
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
Five and five is ten, ten and twenty is thirty
Everybody in the neighborhood knows that we're goin' steady
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit

Come on, you always said you wanted to go
Come on, you always said you wanted to go
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit
You see I like Chicago but I got to go back to Detroit
Yeah!

Inflation Blues

From the CD "Detroit" (Evidence, 1993)

I have ten kids / at home got to eat
And eight of those kids / need shoes on their feet
Now listen mister President / and all you Congressmen too
I have ten kids / that I got to clothe and feed

Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' tough
And I got those mean inflation blues

My landlord rang / my front door bell
And I just let it ring / for a long long spell
I asked him to tell me / what was on his mind
He said you gotta pay up or move young man / Your rent is too far behind

Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' tough
And I got those mean inflation blues

I don't make much money / I can't save a cent
It takes all I can make / just to eat, I can't pay the rent
I got lots o' other bills / and they're all behind
When you see me laughin' people / I'm laughin' to keep from cryin'

Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' worse in the city
Things are gettin' tough
And I got those mean inflation blues

Orange Driver

Also from the CD "Detroit" (1993)

I can hear my name ringin' baby, people talkin' 'bout me all over town
I can hear my name ringin' baby, people talkin' 'bout me all over town
You been tellin' 'em that you don't love me, why did you have me actin' like a clown?

I get the blues before the sunrise, when I think about you not lovin' me
I get the blues before the sunrise, when I think about you not lovin' me
You know tears comes in my eyes baby, and my heart's so full of misery

Can you remember baby, when you lay down 'cross your bed
You was drinkin' that orange driver baby, yes and talkin' all out your head
You said that I love you, oh but you told me a lie
Well I know you didn't mean what you was sayin' baby, so woman so long, so long, goodbye
So long!

When I Get Drunk

Another song from the "Detroit" CD.

When I get drunk, tell me who's gonna carry me home?
When I get drunk, tell me who's gonna carry me home?
You know I'm sober now, but I won't be sober long

Every time, I think of that gal of mine
Every time, I think of that gal of mine
You know I get drunk people, and I don't care what I find

She keeps me guessin' about things I wanna know
She keeps me guessin' about things I wanna know
That woman got me doin' things I never done before

When I get drunk, tell me who's gonna carry me home?
When I get drunk, tell me who's gonna carry me home?
You know I'm sober now, but I won't be sober long
