Valuation by Entertainers):
System Methodology
First, for each of the following criteria,
the entertainer(s) decide what the appropriate numerical
answer is:
I) Musician's Wages
- 10..Good pay & cut of the door.
- 9...A no pay benefit performance, but for a really good cause.
- 8...Good pay.
- 7...No pay, but a cut of the door.
- 6...No pay, no door cut, but you can run a tip jar & sell tapes.
- 3...No pay, no door cut, and management wants a cut of your tape sales.
- 2...No pay, no door cut, management wants a cut of tape sales,
and waiters & waitresses want a cut of your tip jar.
- 1...A benefit, but we didn't believe in the cause, and in
fact, we were conned into performing there.
II) Stage
- 10..Establishment has a good stage.
- 5...Establishment has a good stage, but not really large
enough for performers and equipment.
- 2...Stage is very poor in design or quality, and possibly dangerous.
- 1...No stage, and you have to move the tables yourselves.
III) Equipment
- 10..Establishment provides good equipment, good sound system(mics,amps,mixers,monitors,etc).
- 5...Establishment provides equipment, but not all, or of inferior quality.
- 2...You bring everything.
- 1...There's nothing to plug into, anyway.
IV) Lighting
- 10..Establishment has good stage lighting.
- 5...Establishment has fair lighting.
- 1...60-watt bulbs.
V) Playing Environment
- 10..Air conditioned or heated, with an air filtering system.
- 7...Air conditioned or heated, no air filtering system.
- 4...Poor air conditioning or heating.
- 3...Just fans.
- 2...Just noisy fans.
- 1...Bring insect repellant.
VI) Amenities
- 10..Drinks & food are free to entertainers.
- 8...Free drinks only.
- 7...Free food only.
- 5...Performers get a discount on food and drink.
- 2...Full price on food and drinks, but performers can run a tab.
- 1...Full price, musician's pay when they order.
VI) Cleanliness
- 10..Very clean.
- 7...Tables are clean.
- 3...Nothing is clean.
- 1...Wouldn't eat there, anyway.
VII) Violence
- 10..Never happens here.
- 5...Just happens in the parking lot.
- 2...Violence happens inside.
- 1...Carry the gun in the gig bag.
VIII) Fire Hazard
- 10..Inspected, deemed safe; extinguishers, sprinklers,
clear and marked exits.
- 7...Some but not all of above.
- 4...Fire possible.
- 2...Fire probable.
- 1...Will read about it in the newspaper. Those not burned
to death, will be trampled, or otherwise injured.
IX) Audience
- 10..Here to listen to music with open minds.
- 7...Here to listen to music but with pre-conceived notions.
- 5...Regulars, with some walk-ins and musically curious.
- 3...Just regulars.
- 1...Just here to get drunk.
X) Management
- 10..Likes us, believes in our music.
- 7...Giving us a chance.
- 1...Dislikes us, but couldn't find anybody else.
XI) Staff. Waiters, Waitresses, Bartenders.
- 10..Likes us; tips were "up".
- 1...Dislikes us; tips were "down".
XII) Musically Established
- 10..Always draws a good crowd.
- 5...Sometimes draws a good crowd.
- 1...Just getting started; will go broke soon.
XIII) Advertising
- 10..TV spot highlighted us.
- 8...Radio spot highlighted us.
- 7...Newspaper ad highlighted us.
- 5...Media advertising highlighted us, but mentioned
another group more prominently.
- 4...Handbills were posted in public places, and under wiper blades.
- 2...Handbills, but with misspellings or other errors and omissions.
- 1...None of the above.
XIII)Summation
- 10..We had a good time.
- 1...It was a "dive". We'll never go back.
From there, each performer's evaluation is entered into the computer for the following statistical evaluations:
