Big Taylor & Lee Roy at the 1997 Mountain Makins' Festival
at Morristown, Tennessee's Historic Rose Center
We don't play out much, because Lee Roy works evening shifts. But every now and then, we come across a cool morning gig.
The 22nd Annual Mountain Makins' Festival is a celebration of the rich and varied culture of East Tennessee. It is a two day festival of arts, crafts and music, beginning Saturday, October 25th through Sunday, October 26th. Never minding the quilters, candlemakers, blacksmiths, painters, or potters, the more important performing artists include bluegrass bands, clogging teams, gospel groups, story tellers, Native American dancers, old-time country bands, and oh yes of course, two acoustic blues musicians, Big Taylor & Lee Roy. We'll be performing Saturday morning at about 10:30 AM (Right after the bagpipes), so stay sober enough Friday night so you can get up in time to see us.
Other headliners that day include: Clark Taylor, (Bagpiper); the Hamblen County Boys (Old Time Country); "Davy Crockett" (Storyteller, whose real name is Jim Claborn); "Good Old Boys", (Bluegrass band); Tsoyaha Indian Dancers; "Pict Ou", (Celtic Band), and the "Lantana Drifters", (Old Time Country band).
We're planning a kicking set for your entertainment:
Mississippi Blues - Willy Brown
Big Road Blues - Tommy Johnson
Drinkin' & Gamblin' - Lee Roy
Mister, Mister
Mississippi River Blues - Big Bill Broonzy
Bird Seed Blues
Prodigal Son - Josh White
King Snake
You Rascal You - Sam the Third(Theard)
Cindy Mae
Fallen Comrade Blues
No Matter What You Do
And we must say this: Performances at the Mountain Makins' Festival are supported in part by grants from the "Arts Build Communities Program" of the Tennessee Arts Commission.
