Company D

11th Kentucky "Chenault's" Cavalry, CSA

Company D was recruited from Estill County, Kentucky. There are no known rolls of it in existance. It was one of the largest companies in the regiment. The following are the names of the officers and eleven men who died in Camp Douglas: [source: Lexington Herald, 21 April 1907, by Anderson Chenault Quisenberry]

Thanks to Donna Masters., gg granddaughter of Amos Hudgens of this Company, I have now have a more complete roster. She found the extra names in the Adjutant General's Report, that I had overlooked. This report also states, "This was one of the largest companies in the 11th Cavalry, with most imperfect roll; this company fought at Huntsville, Tenn.; Lebanon, KY; Greasy Creek, KY; Muldrough's Hill, KY; Rolling Fork, KY; Glasgow, KY; Elizabethtown, KY; Nolin's Creek, Columbia, KY; Monticello, KY; Green River Bridge, KY; Mt. Sterling, KY; was captured in Ohio on Morgan's Raid."

This list is further supplemented from information collected by unit historian, Tom Milton.

[Donna Masters, Amos' gg granddaughter, reports: After war, Amos "came back to Estill County, KY. and married, Mary Molly Clouse". Had four children, the eldest being William Jackson Hutchens . "He then settled in Madison County, KY. and married Delilah Abner,in 1875. From this union were 4 more sons. Amos died before the 1900 census".."One other interesting fact is Amos' oldest brother, Francis joined the Union Forces a few months before Amos joined the Confederacy. After the war... they remained good brothers!"]This information is courtesy of Donna Masters.
