As long as man has ventured to sea, there have been Pirates.
The crews that mutinied to take control away from the masters of
their ships, who made their lives miserable. After this however, they were
wanted men and there fates hung at the end of a noose; over the yard arm. These
men without a nation, formed an alliance, a brotherhood, where color of skin,
status of family , or religious belief mattered. They took what they
wanted and needed from the rich governments that dared to venture into the
waters that they chose to inhabit. No one was safe from their plunder or plight,
both royalty and merchants were fair prey.
The Articles of Bartholomew were written before the Constitution
of the United States was ever dreamed of. All men and women, had a vote on
important decisions, men that that lost a limb would receive more booty. Looking
at the Articles of Bartholomew you can clearly see that these men and woman,
that were once slaves, prisoner's, or lowly deck hands started what could be
called the first form of Workers Compensation Benefits, and equal rights for all
races and sex's, way before any other government.
How I became interested in Pirates, and Sailing.

The Errol Flynn & the Movie's - "I wish I had
a Pencil thin Moustache"
I have always loved watching all of the old black and
white movies that come on late night, or when I was a kid, on the
Sunday afternoon movies on TV. Yes, Errol Flynn definitely was the
king of all the Hollywood Pirates. With Captain Blood,
The Sea Hawk, Against All Flags, The Master
of Ballantrae I loved them all. And when you're a kid, after
watching these movies you just had to be a Pirate, one of
those dashing, daring Swashbucklers of the Sea. The Pirates always
got the girl, and the gold.
More Classic's non-Errol Flynn
The Buccaneer
Captain Kidd
Treasure Island
The Black Swan
Blackbeard the Pirate
The Golden Hawk
Sea Devils
The Spanish Main
Raiders of the Seven Seas
Billy Bud
The Newer Pirate Movies
Swashbuckler - 1976
Yellowbeard - 1983 Comedy
Hook - 1991, I know Peter Pan
Pirates - 1986
The Pirate Movie - 1982 (musical spoof)
Treasure Island - 1990 (made for TV),
These aren't really a pirate movies but still good and
exciting to watch Mutiny on the Bounty, Captain Horatio
Hornblower.
Disney even had Pirates, the Classic movie " Swiss
Family Robinson", in this movie the Pirates were the bad guys,
, Black Beard's Ghost a comedy, and lots of
fun. And the newer Return to Treasure
Island - 1985 (6-part mini-series) Disney also had a
little fun with Pirate's showing them on a lighter side with the ride "Pirates
of the Caribbean" .
