GENTECH 2002 IN BOSTON

 Always the pinnacle of the winter genealogical conferences this year's Genealogy and Technology Conference, GenTech 2002, will be held January 25-26 at the Sheraton Hotel and Hynes Convention Center in Downtown Boston. A Librarian's Day with lectures specific to librarians is scheduled for January 24.

 The conference is hosted by the New England Historic and Genealogical Society and the Massachusetts Historical Society which are located nearby. It will feature lectures, exhibits and demonstrations on genetics, genealogical research and genealogical software.

IGHR IN BIRMINGHAM

 One of the most popular institutes on genealogical studies is held each year at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. This year's Institute on Genealogy and Histroical Research, IGHR, will be held June 9-14, 2002.

 The IGHR is taught by some of the most respected experts in their fields and offers courses in the following criteria: Techniques and Technology; Intermediate Genealogy; Old South and Some Border States; Advanced Methodology and Evidence Analysis; Writing and Publishing for Genealogists; Understanding Land Records; Using Genealogical Software and Electronic Archives; and Irish Genealogical Research at Home and Abroad.

BRITISH RESEARCH TRIP

 Sponsored by the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama the British Institute of Genealogy and History will offer a genealogical research tour to London and York, England June 30- July 22, 2002.

SURFING THE INTERNET

 Mic Barnette  will lead a Surfing the Internet for Genealogy class at Houston Community College's 1681 Cartwright Missouri City campus. This class is a live three hour virtual tour of some of the best genealogical websites on the Internet. FAMILY TREE MAKER SOFTWARE CLASS

 Paula Perkins Parke will teach an Organizing Your Family Research With Family Tree Maker Software class from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday November 29. This one-time class will be held at Houston Community College's 1681 Cartwright campus in Missouri City.

 Through demonstrations, students will learn step by step how to organize, document family information and sources and publish a family book. For more information and to register, contact HCC at 281-835-5539.

NEWS FROM THE BOOKSHELF

 Published bi-monthly since September-October 1996 Family Chronicle: The Magazine for Families Researching Their Roots has become one of the most popular magazines among genealogists. Subscriptions to the magazine are available for $24 annually and are solicited from their website at http://familychronicle.com.

 Paramount in each issue of the magazine are articles on genealogically related Internet websites, software and research in the United States, Canadian and nearly all other foreign countries of the world. There are, also, articles on all aspects of genealogical research including vital records, ethnic research, historical events, document preservation, heraldry and photography.

 After constant requests for back issues Family Chronicle publisher, Halvor Moorshead, created annual collections for each year of the magazine. Currently there are five collections-1996-1997; 1997-1998; 1998-1999; 1999-2000; and 2000-2001 . Each collection contains all six issues of the magazine published from September-October through July-August for the stated year. Each collective issue is priced at $25, postpaid, and is available from their website.
