Welcome to our
FAMILY TIES
Darrell and Rita Holcomb
We are in the process of moving this website.........the new site can be found here
The following pages reflect 30 years of marriage for Darrell and Rita and more than 1000 years of our heritage. Our combined tree branches include many famous and infamous personalities. From Charlemange and William the Conquer to Henry Hudson, George Washington, John Penn, Zebulon Pike and Zacharay Taylor.
Then there are the un-celebrated heroines whose daily living under horrible conditions make them our favorite ancestors.
There is Mary Stamper Ownby, a widow with several children who married again only to bury her new husband after having another child during America's Colonial Period.
There is Martha Smith Brabston who survived the Indian Removal of 1812 only to have to hide from authorities, while carrying her 2nd child in the 2nd Indian Removal in 1838.
There is Nancy Canady Taylor who crossed the Cumberland Gap in 1842 with a baby in her lap and another one on the way.
There is Lizzie Ownby who at 12 years of age defended her 5 younger brothers and sister against Yankee invaders during the Civil War.
There is Henrietta Clay Bassore Gideon who was left a widow with 2 small daughters and entered the World's Oldest Profession to feed her daughters, in Restoration Texas. The stories go on.
Originating in Virginia and the Carolinas during Colonial America, and migrating through Tennessee, Missouri and Alabama, these family branches all came together in Fannin and Grayson Counties in Texas before 1900.
The blood lines of these Heros and Villians course through our veins and make us who and what we are today. I am proud to present to you "Our Family Ties":
