CANADAY
William Canaday was born about 1733 and died about 1801 in Franklin County Virginia. He was married to Nancy Unknown and they at least 7 children. Those children were Sarah who married John Radford, Misnier who married Samuel Underwood, John who married Nancy Unknown, Nancy who married James Allen, William Jr, Rhoda and James who was born in 1755 and married Elizabeth Rakes (Raikes) in 1775.
James and Elizabeth were the parents of William Patrick "Billy" Canaday who married Martha Biddy Wright. Martha was the daughter of Joshua Wright and her information can be found on the Wright page. Not surprisingly, Martha died before William. There has been some controversy over her death date and Williams date of remarriage. VA Death Records show Martha died Dec 28, 1857 and William married Nancy Hill on Nov 13, 1857. This could be a different William or the date could have been mis-transcribed at some point.
The Canaday's were Quakers in Virginia and some information can be found in the Charity Meeting House Members Minutes, 1809--Patrick Co. VA.
Billy and Martha were blessed with 24 children, about 18 of them reached adulthood. Their approximately 9th child was Nancy Canaday who married Anderson Lafayette Taylor in 1832 in Virginia. Nancy and Anderson migrated to Tennessee in 1842. Nancy made the year long migration through the Cumberland Gap with 3 children under 9 years old and one child in her lap and one in her womb.
Nancy and Anderson Taylor made a home in Warren Co, TN where they had 7 more children and died within 6 months of each other in 1892, after losing 2 sons in the Civil War.
