Trinbagonians love to lime. Now firstly for those of you non-Trinbagonians who may be reading this, you have to understand what exactly is a lime. This noun/verb word refers to any event in a Trinbagonians life other than the normal. In this case the normal refers to going home after work or school, eating dinner, bathing (this depends on the individuals of course) and sleeping. The breaking of some part of this ritual or possibly the entire sequence to engage in some social gathering that brings a smile to your face at some point in the event is a lime. Hence a funeral is not a lime, but a wedding could be considered to be a lime. A nightclub, beach, drag race, basketball or football game are all limes. This web site will deal with limes for which a few beers are considered appropriate, therefore we will not deal with the basketball or football games, unless of course you intend to spectate in which case a few drinks will be entirely acceptable. This web site will primarily deal with partying in T & T , the different types of partiers, the different types of parties etcetera. Firstly one must consider what are the driving forces behind a Trinbagonian's reason to attend a lime.
Let us consider money. The parties an individual attends is directly dependent on the amount of money he or she has, or the amount of money he or she was prepared to spend. This is by far the most restrictive factor concerning the hmmmm, what lime tonight I wonder? question. Many times the individual ends up in a party from which there can be derived little or no satisfaction because of the lack of adequate funds. Consider a certain establishment's members night price list:
Ok, assuming money is no problem, the next factor influencing party attendence and enjoyment of this party is the motivation of the individual. Nobody in Trinidad likes to party if they have a sour vibes. This terminology refers to the fact that sometimes, the individual just does not feel to party, despite the fact that all other conditions such as money and time hold favourably for him or her. If this is your case, please stay home. I for one don't want your sourness around me when I'm trying to enjoy my lime when on those rare occasions when conditions are favourable for me. This lack of motivation can easily arise when there are choices of where to lime at the same time. Because of this a person can easily feel he or she is about to attend the wrong lime, and therefore gets a condition I call lime envy , which leads to a sour vibes about the party to which they are about to go. Other factors leading to a lack of motivation can in fact arise inside the party as well and include seeing that stupid man or stupid woman as soon as you set foot inside the party, paying $8 for a beer, losing your girlfriend or boyfriend for some hours (although this can be a good thing too), flood in the male bathroom (what fluids comprise that flood?), seeing that stupid person again for the night, hearing the same song more than 3 times, running out of money before you get drunk, and a whole host of other reasons. This is a serious problem and should be dealt with be either not attending the party, or leaving as soon as the sour vibes descends upon you (a sour vibes usually does not leave the bearer until the next lime). Now you must consider time. Do you have time to party?? Are you sure?? What about work tomorrow morning or your child's christening in the morning?? After you have answered all of these questions and are quite sure that none of these questions' answers could lead to a sour vibes in the middle of the lime, you are quite welcome to lime. If you are like myself, that means you prefer to be lable to sleep late the morning after a good lime, but you also realize that missing some hours of sleep is a slight sacrifice for a really really good lime, so you going to be there anyway. But there are those Trinbagonians for whom sleep plays an integral part of their lives and therefore will only lime if there is a Saturday, Sunday or public holiday on the following day. They don't know what they're missing. Now you have to study transport. The most reliable of course is if you drive, but since this is not always feasible you must try to pick the best of the other options. The following must be considered of your driver:
Now onto the permission factor. Between the parent and the spouse there are many similarities.
I have no advice that can help you'll limers out there on this topic. That depends on your relationship with the parent or the spouse. Heheheh. Trinidad and Tobago has many different categories of limers or partiers and these range from hardcore reggae/dancehall lovers, to those alternative/metal lovers; from serious partiers to those who never do party; and from gapers (men and women with no apparant action plan in a party) to those meticulously groomed and scheduled individuals. For each class of partier or for the individuals that comprise a combination of these classes a nightclub or outdoor venue can be found that meets their party needs at least on one night per week.
