Singer/guitarist John Adam Estes was nicknamed "Sleepy" due to his amazing ability to fall asleep standing up... He was born in 1904 (1899 according to other sources like the All Music Guide to the Blues) and died in 1977. In the 1930s he formed a long-time partnership with harmonica player Hammie Nixon. Estes is best known for his urgent, pleading - almost crying - singing style.
