Australian TramsThe following is a brief background about the extensive Melbourne tramway system, in Victoria, Australia. The following pages show images mostly from our collection of photos taken since the late 1960's. They show on several pages the evolution of trams in Melbourne, Victoria, including W2 series trams, later W series trams, Z, A and B series trams, C and D series trams, Non-standard trams and Works Trams. The following pages show some some particularly interesting services, namely Melbourne's City Circle tramline and Melbourne's Restaurant tram service. I also include a couple of images of cable trams taken by my uncle. Trams also appear in special events such as the Moomba tramway processions. View images from the 2000, 2001, and 2002 processions. The following pages show images of trams or light rail vehicles on currently operating lines in Sydney , New South Wales, Adelaide , South Australia, and Victor Harbor , South Australia. The following pages show images of trams on the now closed systems in Ballarat , and Bendigo , both regional cities in Victoria and Brisbane, capital city of Queensland. Preserved trams in Australasia Australia and New Zealand have vigorous tram preservation movements, with a number of museum, tourist and heritage tram operations in different centres. In Australia, these include the Victorian operations at Ballarat , Bendigo , Bylands and Hawthorn . They also include tramway museums in Sydney , Adelaide , Brisbane , Perth and Tasmania. The Glenreagh Mountain Railway in New South Wales also operates a Melbourne tram. We also show separate pages of images of preserved cable trams at Bylands and cable tram relics . Tramway museums have been developed in three cities in New Zealand - Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Some of the trams from the Christchurch museum at Ferrymead Historical Park now operate as part of the Christchurch Tourist Tramway operating around the streets of central Christchurch, in addition to the continuing operations at the original Ferrymead site. Infrastructure works in Melbourne, Australia Melbourne has had a program of expanding its tramway network in various locations. We present some images of these infrastructure works, including Docklands tramway extension works, the Box Hill tramway extension and the Vermont South tramway extension.
