October is a busy month for the PTA. We’re
putting the finishing touches on our Jog-A-Thon and Red Ribbon activities.
Come to cheer (or even to run) with our kids at the Jog-A-Thon on October
22 as they jog to meet our $25,000 fundraising goal. And, in support of
the "Just Say No"/"Dare to be Drug Free" theme, wear red when you join
your kids for lunch at the Red Ribbon picnic on October 27. Bring a pizza,
burgers, whatever you want and eat with your kids during their regularly
scheduled lunch period on October 27.
Project Self Esteem is winding up this month and I want to extend
my special thanks to Bev Hight for heading up the project and to the many
parents who volunteered their time in the classrooms to present this very
worthwhile program to our students.
Loraine Liscano
President
Let’s start getting excited – the 1999-2000 Read-a-Thon will begin
Monday, November 8. Our theme this year will be "Travel Through Time –
Read Into the Millenium." Our program will basically be the same as last
year’s with the exception of a few different prizes and incentives. More
information will be coming home shortly. Keep an eye out for it in your
backpacks!

The Membership Drive was a big success and the PTA would like to
thank each of you who joined this year. We are 757 strong!!! Your support
is greatly appreciated.

Second Grade Brownie Troop 12 spent their last meeting working hard
to keep their school campus clean. As part of their community service hours
they filled many bags of trash. Also, new geraniums were added to our flower
area that were so generously donated by California Living. Fertilizer
and additional flowers were also added. Good work, girls! A special thanks
to Sheila Van Deudekom for her landscaping expertise.
Howdy, folks! It’s that time of year again! You got it – it’s JOG-A-THON
time! It’s going to be a down-right, foot-stompin’ good time. Plan to come
out and spend the day with us on October 22nd rooting on our Fanning Falcons!
The first race begins at 10:15 AM. Encourage your kids to fill their pledge
card because there are lots of great prizes to be had, but best of all,
if we make our goal of $25,000 again this year we will be having a Fanning
Country Fair in the spring. Also, if we meet our goal, you’ll be seeing
Mr. Daniel ‘round the barnyard dressed like "Farmer Dan"! So, ya’ll come
down, Friday, October 22, ya hear?

Fair, please leave me a note in the office and I will contact you.

Reflections
"Anything is Possible . . ."
That's the theme for this year's Reflections program. For those of
you who are not familiar with Reflections, it is an arts recognition and
achievement program offered to students through the National PTA. It was
designed to interest children, parents, teachers and communities in the
arts. There are four categories to enter: Literature, Photography, Visual
Arts, & Musical Composition. The work must be strictly by the student
with no help from others. There will be packets available in the school
office with the official rules and an entry form. The deadline for entries
for this year's program will be: Friday, November 19th, 1999. Judging will
be held after that time and the 1st place winners will go on to the District
level for the next round of judging. Each student will be recognized for
their participation in the program.
If you have any questions please call: Pattie Chiafolo @ 714-257-0327
We will not be ordering anymore Stretchtext
Bookcovers for the remainder of the school year. If you are interested
in purchasing any, we do have about 30 left in solids and assorted prints.
Call me to make arrangements for delivery @ 714-257-0327. The price is
$3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. Thank you!
Pattie Chiafolo
PTA Vice-President
Attention All Parents:
We are once again saving our Campbell labels to get something neat
for our school. You can send them with your child to school or bring them
to the office. Thanks to all who have been sending them. I’ve included
a list of all eligible labels.
Thanks!
