Some cool pictures from Bulgaria

Proud Balkan Mountain....The symbol of Bulgaria!

...This is the Zograf Monastery - the place where the first Bulgarian history was written.

...This is the beautiful Rila Monastery - responsible for the preservation of the Bulgarian culture and spirit during the Ottoman yoke.

...This is the St. George church in Sofia - one of the oldest churches in Europe.

...This is the so called "Madarski Konnik" - a mystic sculpture on the rocks near the town Shumen. The name of the Bulgarian who made it is unknown, but this sculpture is part of the Bulgarian history (created during the reign of Khan Omurtag) and has always been revered as one the Bulgarian miracles.

...The icon of Cyrill&Methodius - the Bulgarians who created the Slavic alphabet (the picture to the right) and gave all the countries with Slavic population (roughly half of Europe) the chance to develop their unique cultures and to become what they are today.

...These are Levsky(on the left picture) and Botev - the people who did a lot for the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman yoke.

...Men with wind-pipes - one of the symbols of the Bulgarian folklore and tradition. Some of the songs played on these instruments and performed by Bulgarian singers were placed into the space-ship "Voyager" as a message to any extraterrestrial life this ship will encounter.

...Here are some good looking Bulgarians. Well, you cannot meet such people in Bulgaria now, except at some folklore feasts like the ones below.

...A typical folklore feast with
thousands of people dancing
the traditional Bulgarian "horo".

...The "Kukeri" dancers - a very old Bulgarian tradition. Bulgarians believe that these dancers dressed like monsters have excorcist powers and bring happines and health to the places they visit.

...Men dancing during
a folklore feast.

...Another "gaidar" - a man
playing on a wind-pipe. The other pictures shows men playing on a "gaida" and "tapan" (something like a large drum).

...And of course, the traditional Bulgarian "trapeza". Believe me, Bulgarians know how to live! Cooking and making incredibly good wine are some of the things they do best.

...Here are two typical, picturesque Bulgarian houses.
