A
sombre farewell my friends
The 60th Virtual Air Wing closed its doors for the final time on May
31st 2003 with the departure of our final flight. We operated from
Travis AFB for 6 years, flew well over 10,000 hours, covering some 3 million
nautical miles (thats more that 140 times around the world)
We flew to some exotic and off the beaten path locations, some fun
and exciting, others inhospitable and challenging.
From Panama to Peru, Canada to Europe, East Timor to South West Asia
we visited them all.
I enjoyed commanding the 60th VAW for these six years, and will always
remember my introduction to doing things the USAF way! I have learned
so much from those I met through my association with Virtual Air Command,
and I have made some true friends.
I will be leaving the "bones" of the website up until geocities decides
to remove it, as a memorial to the countless hours of enjoyment I (and
others I hope!) got out of the 60th VAW.
Please feel free to visit the History page which covers some of the
things we did over those 6 short years, the roster, which shows the active
pilots at the time of the deactivation, and the photo gallery. I
have uploaded a special page of photos of my last flight with the 60th,
the last flight of our F-4e, from Travis to AMARC at Davis-Monthan AFB.
I wish all of you well, fellow pilots, collegues, friends.
God Bless, and farewell.
This is REACH600 over, and out.
Be aware, some (probably many)
links will no longer function
From the old welcome message:
[ The 60th Virtual Airlift Wing commenced operations on July 22nd
1997, as an operational Wing of Virtual Air Command.
Virtual Air Command was formed in 1997 by Lee Brady as a military
alternative to "normal" Virtual Airlines. Our operations are loosely based
on practices of the U.S. Air Force. We endeavor to provide a fun
and challenging environment for our pilots.
We have expanded from our humble beginnings to boast not only an
airlift element, but Helicopter, Tanker, Aeromedical,
and Special Operations, operating a wide range of aircraft types in an
equally wide range of custom missions worldwide. We aim to make your flying
fun and challenging!
Based at Travis AFB, California, our mission is to provide logistic
support for U.S. forces worldwide, as well as providing emergency airlift
on demand. We support Flight Simulator 98-2002 but are standardizing to
FS2002. Many times we fly with custom scenery and aircraft designed exclusively
for us. Missions can be flown solo but most of us enjoy a good Multiplayer
session to really keep things interesting! We encourage creative thinking
to achieve mission goals and value the input of our pilots. ]
