2056 (Knutsford) Squadron
Air Cadets
The squadron is part of an organisation of over 40,000 cadets!
The Air Cadet are devoted to providing exiting and challenging opportunities for boys and girls age 13 and over. Cadets wear RAF uniform and adhere to its disciplines, rank structure and maintain close ties with the RAF as well as using its extensive resources. Who are the Air Cadets?
What do Air Cadets Fly?
All cadets are given the opportunity to fly and glide. We use Bulldog training aircraft at RAF Woodvale, and many cadets get to fly in other aircraft such as the Hercules transport, Chinook helecopter, Nimrod sub hunter and even the Tornado fighter. Some have been lucky enough to fly with the Red Arrows as many members of this team are ex cadets!
The RAF Flying Scholarship and Navigator Schemes offer extended training to older cadets wishing to make flying their career.
The Air Cadets have the largest single fleet of gliders in the world and cadets can even progress to instructor level.
What is 'Adventure Training'?
This is a commonly used term used to encompass many of the regular activities the squadron gets involved in. Examples include Duke of Edinburgh Award Expeditions, Mountain Biking, Night Excercises, Climbing, Potholing, Sailing, Canoeing, Skiing and so on.
What are 'Camps'
RAF Lyneham in May. Guess which one is "Fat Albert"...
There are several types of camps: Annual Camps are week long and held on RAF stations throughout the UK.
This year we have already visited RAF Lyheham in Wiltshire where we flew in these...
...doing this op at LOW level!
...dumping a load over Salisbury Plain...
...and landing on a WET runway at Lyneham
...and in July we went to RAF Odiham where we flew in one of these...
As well as flying, night exercises, and shooting you will also have the opportunity to work with the RAF at close quarters and many cadets opt for working in a section - such as Engineering, RAF Police, or the RAF Regiment. Overseas camps may be in Germany, Gibraltar or Cyprus.
Do I have to have any special skills, or want to join the forces?
No - we take anyone, subject to parental consent and basic medical conditions. You do not have to be academic or sporty - but we encourage you to work hard and join in our many activities. We do not recruit for the armed services, but the training you will receive is seen in a positive light by ANY EMPLOYER!I'm interested in joining...When does the squadron meet?
The squadron meets twice weekly in the evenings and has activities on many weekends throughout the year. Just turn up - the staff and cadets will be happy to show you the squadron, and you can see a video on what it is like being a cadet - there is no obligation to join.
You only get out what you put in...
The squadron is committed to providing you with challenges and unique opportunities and with effort you will go far. But most of all you will find it all great fun, and will make many new friends - it is all up to you!
Come down and see us, we will reserve you a seat... Tel: 01565 750411
