Education

Fire Prevention activities are carried out all through the year. The main focus is during Fire Prevention Week when firefighters go to the schools and day cares. Fire prevention lessons are taught, fire trucks and equipment are shown and discussed with the children. Brochures and stickers are given to the children to help reinforce the activities.
Many groups, such as Scouts, Home schooled children ect., tour the fire stations during the year. When these groups tour the station the members provide about the same activities are given to them as done at the schools, but on a more personal level.

Fire extinguisher training is availible to local businesses. Employees are taught how to inspect and use portable fire extinguishers. Hands on training is done with a contolled live fire.

Prevention

Fire Prevention Code Inspections

Inspections help to ensure reasonable life-safety conditions within a building. The condition of exits, interior finishes, operation of exit doors, emergency lighting, exit signs, and all fire doors are inspected. Inspections, which are intended to prevent fires from occuring, are effective because fire hazards that could cause a fire, allow a fire to develop, or allow a fire to spread are identified. Inspections provide an opportunity to educate the owners or occupants of a building about fire safe behavior and the need for adequate fire- and life-safety conditions in the building.

Pre-Fire Planning

Pre-Fire Planning provides valuable information about a structure that can improve the ability of fire department personnel to respond effectively to a fire in that structure. Pre-Fire Planning addresses vital fire protection concerns, such as structure layout, including means of entry; contents; construction details; and types and location of built-in fire protection systems. It includes all of the information that can have an impact on decisions or actions taken during an emergency. Pre-Fire Planning is a joint venture between the Fire Department and property owners.
