Jagdpanzer IV L/48

Jagdpanzer is not just the name for a particular model of tank hunter but is also the generic name for a whole series of WW II German tank destroyers. This particular type enetered service in summer of 1944, just in time for the Normandy landings. A trip to Normandy and Mike Reynolds books on I and II SS Panzer Corps were the inspiration behind this project. The combination of colours, design and gripping history makes these subjects a very attractive waste of time in plastic.

The kit is a easy build no real pitfalls.TheZimmeritt was all done by hand with a combination of Revell putty and an Xacto knife blade(inverted). The putty needs to be kept wet with regular application of Revell glue. It is a question doing it little pieces at a time. The Zimmeritt was sanded down to appropiate scale profiel and then the painting can start. After the base colour of sand yellow the tank was preshaded with Tamiya black. The roadwheels and tracks will be added only when all the paint work has been finished. The three tone colour scheme was applied conform the instructions. The contrast between the colours was reduced by an overspray of sand yellow. This has the effect of binding the colours together and giving the scheme a scale effect. The tools on the rear deck were added only when most of the painting an d weathering was finished.
I made a simple diorama representing a jagdpanzer crossing a small stream in orde to join-up with the road. The jagdpanzer is not yet complete, in that crew needs to be added and the upper hull needs to be glued to the hull bottom. The use of trees was to give thye bocage feel of the Normandy country side. All diorama details are scratch built.
