Atchison Kansas

Birthplace of Aviatrix Amelia Earhart

Leaving southeastern Nebraska behind, we travelled to northeastern Kansas, stopping in Atchison.  We camped in a city park campground and toured the Earhart home and contained museum.

The scenic bluff at right above was directly across the street from the Earhart home.

The city park in which we camped contained a huge earthwork (shown under construction), a likeness of Amelia Earhart, complete with helmet, goggles, jacket collar, and her trademark scarf.  The area of the figure covers one acre and can be seen from the air at altitude.  Construction included plantings of various greenery, stones, etc.
