A Fall 2001 TripTo Delaware

This trip included visits to Dover, New Castle, and Wilmington.

 

Sideling Hill, Maryland

The above shows Sideling Hill cut and the rest stop of the same name located on Interstate 68 in Maryland.  There is a museum with exhibits explaining the geology which is apparent in the walls of the cut.  Our camper is seen in both photos above.

 

Camping in Dover, DE.....Delaware state capitol, Dover

Wal-Marts usually permit self contained campers to stay over night in their parking lots.                   

 

New Castle, Delaware

New Castle was the location of the state's first capital.  Delaware was the first to ratify the United States Constitution and thus become a state.

 

 

The Old Court House, above left served as the Delaware colonial assembly building and subsequently served as this first state's first capitol. The cupola of this building marks the center of the 12 mile circular arc which defines the border between Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Above right is the George Read II house.  Read's father signed the Declaration of Independence.

 

New Castle old city looks much as it did in the seventeenth century as it contains many old original buildings and stone paved streets.
