Life at the Air Force Academy

As seen through the eyes of a Fourth Class Cadet

a.k.a. A Freshman SMACK

Academy life isn't easy, by any stretch of the imagination, and it takes a lot of perseverance to get through the first year . But for most cadets the day starts before 5:30 and everyone is ready to go at 6am. Then we all head outside for morning formation, and the raising of the flag. Afterwards, we all march to breakfast where the fun begins for the freshmen. They are consistently quizzed on the daily knowledge that they are supposed to have memorized till the waiters bring the food. After that, it is a break for classes. During the academic part of the day there is a short break for noon meal formation and lunch, which is just like breakfast, as far as the training goes. Oh, by the way, training isn't like showing someone how to flip burgers or work a cash register. Training is a lot of yelling from upper-class cadets that is supposed to make you a better officer in the future, by teaching you to work under stress. After the school day ends, we either do intramural sports or go on a nice run up and down a mountain, carrying rifles, and stopping occasionally to do some huge amount of push-ups. By the time we are dismissed everyone has already sweated through their cloths. Now it is time to go get dinner and do homework. The next day everything starts over again. This cycle continues for the freshmen until mid-march, After that they are treated like equals with the upperclassmen.

Well, for all the bad things here at the Academy, there is also a lot of good things. Top of the line computers that play DVD movies, plenty of sports, good hiking/mountain biking, and a ton of clubs that only cost about $10 to join and use there equipment. There is also a Skydiving Team, Soaring Club, and a Flying team.

Now on to the squadrons. Which is the best out of the 40? (Soon to be downsized to 36 squadrons.) Squadron number 25 is the BEST!!!

Rock Hard Redeye

Of course, this is the squadron that I belong to. But it is still the best. We kick butt in our knowledge tests, march the best, and we have the most discipline out of all of the squadrons. We just recieved the outstanding academic squadron of the year award! Yet we still know how to get down and party. We also enjoy midget tossing. (pics will be up soon to show you what I am talking about.)
