Up-coming practice missions
- 16 Feb 99 --POSTPONED--to rain date. The ground teams will be looking for a missing jogger in the north end of the state. Cold temperatures, a variety of terrain, a fairlly large area and a small target are expected to challenge the teams.
Aircrews will be searching for an aircraft that left Westerly for North Central but did not arrive. There will be no ELT. Report to North Central at 0730 local.
- 20 Feb 99-- February is our tradional night mission. It starts at 1600 and runs to about 2300. This year it is a missing aircraft search compounded by cold and darkness. Each year the weather has added some unexpected element as well.
- 20 Mar 99-- The aircrews and ground teams will get to practice their little-used skills of air-to-ground communications and coordination without radios. Once that has been achieved the ground teams will be working on a missing child search. This time the terrain will be more familiar but the moving and small target will make it a rigorous mission
RIGSAR--The Rhode Island Ground Search and Rescue School is set for the week of 15 Feb 99. Cadets and seniors interested in becoming qualified as ground team members are encouraged to attend.
Days will be filled with search theory, interviewing techniques, electronic search, compass reading, navigation, map reading, winter survival, pear selection and preparation, living in the field, and more.
Field exercises are planned at Camp Fogerty, the Arcadia Management Area, and the West Hill Dam in Uxbridge MA. The three areas offer a variety of terrain and challenges.
Cadets must complete phase 1 and have attended an encampment. Seniros must have completed Level 1 and CPPT. Both must have completed the General ES requirements.
