GENERAL:January Meeting...
There was a big turnout for the January meeting with 23 in attendance. Every chair in the room was filled and Tom Osborne had to bring in more. There were 3 guests and one of them was voted into the club. Please welcome Larry Machlin of New Whiteland when you see him at the field. Several members also paid dues for 2000.
Some of the topics discussed at the meeting were:
The rapidly approaching 2nd annual club swap meet. Mike Hoggatt will create the flyers for distribution by Bob Watson.
The Society of Antique Modelers use of the club field in July and some concerns on noise with the old ignition engines.
The Model Aviation magazine donation to the school that Bob Watson & Brent Hoover are working on.
Mike Rollins to be CD again for the 2nd annual club Fun Fly, date to be announced.
Possible conflicts with the club air show date in October.
Bill Couch will compose a "Thank You" letter to Chapman's restaurant concerning our Christmas dinner in December.
A letterhead will be created for club business and a corporate/business sponsorship information letter will be written to pass out to interested businesses.
Glider Contest Report...
Monroe County R/C Club's New Year's Day Glider Contest went on as usual without any Y2K problems. The weather could not have been more pleasant for the first of January with sun most of the day, a high around 55 and winds very moderate to light. Most flyers were coat-less by noon and even the kerosene heater/chili stove was turned off by mid-afternoon.
As usual for the last 5-7 years, Mary Drake once again made and brought her famous "Thermal Chili" to the event for all to partake. Many of us know that Dan and Mary are selling their house and moving away this year. Mary presented a card to the club that said she has enjoyed doing this for us all of these years and would now like to pass the "chili pot" on to some one willing to continue the tradition. Mary, a hearty "THANK YOU" to you.
Now for the low down. Thirteen fliers signed up and flew this year, six of them from out of town or state. Five rounds were flown for 65 official flights (not counting test/trim/fun flights before and after the event). The rounds were: 1) 5 min duration, 2&3) 5 min duration w/spot landing, 4&5) 3 min precision w/ spot landing for a total of 1500 points Max. The Longest Flight of the Millennium and First Crash of the Millennium were also run during the contest. Here are the final standings:
1st place: Johnny Berlin 1322
2nd place: Gil Gauger 1249
3rd place: Gordy Stahl 1137
4th place: Lou Magyar 1078
5th place: Ed Wilson 1011
6th place: Tom Osborne 924
7th place: Pete Peterson 897
8th place: Brent Hoover 883
9th place: Jim Deck 758
10th place: Henk Haitjema 709
11th place: Michael Rollings 687
12th place: Steve Jackson 670
13th place: Brian Elliott 616Longest Flight of the Millennium went to Gordy Stahl with a time of 8:51.
First Crash of the Millennium went to Henk Haitjema.
I personally would like to thank all who came and flew, helped, or participated in some way. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. We also had many people that just stopped by to say "Hi" (including a couple of former club members that have not been with us for some time), or were curious about what we were doing. Let's hope that our public exposure brings new fliers and more understanding to our hobby/sport.
High flights, Soft landings,

More E-mail addresses...
Three more members have added their e-mail addresses to our growing list. That's another 12 bucks or so that we'll save on postage this year. To date, we have thirty-eight people who receive the newsletter via e-mail. That amounts to close to $150.00 saved on postage during the year that can be spent on important items such as flying field maintenance & improvements. We currently send snail mail to seven addresses which is pretty darn good for a club the size of ours. If you change your address or have trouble receiving your newsletter, please let me know. Unpaid members will be dropped from the list after March so be sure to get your dues to Brent as soon as possible. His address is: Brent Hoover 3605 Cockrell Bloomington, IN 47403 You can e-mail him if there is a problem at bhoo@in@worldnet.att.net or give him a call at 812-824-7256. If you have something for the newsletter, send it to me at belliott@surf- ici.com or give me a call at 765-342-7236.
An event calendar can be accessed from the clubs Website. Please follow the link on the main page to get there. Anyone can use this Calendar and make a posting to a message board. The only requirement is that you join the Yahoo Groups and become a registered user. Its FREE and no personal information need be provided if you do not want it made public.
The message board is a GREAT place to post items you have for sale and make some general announcements.
There is also a photo album section there. Anyone can post a photo of what ever subject (model airplane club related please) they want! We have made several albums for you to add your photo... or you can make your own!
Please try to keep photos limited to 50k or less. We have only 5 meg of space available to post photos and it'll go fast. If you have pictures that you would like to post, please e-mail them to Lou and he'll get them posted on the main website.
If anyone would like to buy a Club shirt or hat please drop Bruce a line. The shirts sell for $21.50 and the hats are $9.00.
