Glider Contest
Official report from Brent Hoover (CD) pending…
Okay here it
is, late as usual.
We started
out with a lousy, rainy old day, and postponed the contest start for a couple
of hours. While the CD and part of the soon to be hard working crew were
getting their fill at the local Quacker Barrel, a few fooli.., er, I mean
devoted fliers waited the rain out and were flying by the time
everyone else returned.
Five flyers
braved the wind and cold with many other helpers in attendance. They
were: Brian Elliott, Tom Osborne, Johnny Berlin, Julian Robertson, and Tim
Sparks. Six rounds of mostly two minute precision duration were flown
along with the usual "Longest Flight of the Year" and "First Crash of the
Year" events. When the contest was finished after six rounds, the
standings were as follows:
First
place, Johnny Berlin
Second
place, Julian Robertson
Third
place, Tom Osborne
Forth
place, Brian Elliott
Fifth
place, Tim Sparks
Longest
Flight of the Year, Johnny Berlin
First Crash
of the Year, Co-owned by Tim Sparks and Steve Jackson (ask
'em, go ahead)
A big thanks
to all involved. Wouldn't you know, after the contest was over and
equipment was being put away, the sun came out and a very cold and heavy
helium balloon was seen happily caught in a thermal heading
southwest.

B.T.W. It may
be rumored that I bought a (yech) power airplane at Charlestown last
weekend. Hey, I haven't put a engine on it so that don't count. %^
