GENERAL:

February Meeting...

There were twenty-one people in attendance at the February meeting of the Monroe County R/C Club.

The Club Airshow date has been changed to Sunday, October 1. If you know of any conflicts on that date please let Mark know. We want to get the schedule fixed well in advance so we can do a better job on publicity & get a bigger crowd this year.

The details have been ironed out for the "Model Aviation" magazine subscription to go to Fairview School. Look for an article by Bob Watson in this issue for details on that.

We have added some of the area hobby shops to our monthly newsletter mailing. Treasure Chest in Bloomington, Hudson's in Bedford, Stick & Rudder in Plainfield, Hobby Hangar in Vernon, & Hobby R/C in Indianapolis. It can't hurt to spread the word around.

2nd Annual Swap Meet Report... by Bob Watson

The second annual Monroe County R/C Club Swap Meet held at the Monroe County Fairgrounds on Saturday, February 26th was a success. We actually made a profit this year. We should have the financial information ready to discuss at the March club meeting. We sold all forty-two tables that were available to us and about 95% of those were reserved in advance. Next year we may need to rent more tables.

I talked with two vendors and both said they did not have as many sales as they would like, but wanted to be notified about next year's event.

I want to thank Bruce Hoffman, Brent Hoover, Steve Jackson, & Joe Jackson for helping with the Friday night table setup. Thanks also to Mark Sexton, Bill Lone, & Joe Huggins for helping in the kitchen and Lou Magyar, & Bruce for manning the sign in table. A big "thanks" also goes out to all the members that I did not mention that helped with other chores like helping the vendors get unloaded & the tear-down/cleanup duties.

This event could not happen without your help!

More New Members...

Four new names have been added to the club roster since last month. Please welcome Ryan Noonan of Bloomington, Bill Black of Martinsville, Carl Terpenning of Bloomington, & Dale Terpenning of Ellettsville. Let'em know we're glad to have them aboard!

Club Donates Magazine Subscription to Fairview School...by Bob Watson

Two years ago a Mr. Wayne Nichols attended one of our club meetings. Wayne is the science teacher at Fairview School here in Bloomington. He had a team of sixth grade students competing in a science fair. One of the competitions was building and flying a rubber powered model. Wayne had no experience in that area and was looking to our club for help. Since there were no other volunteers at the meeting, I stopped by the school a couple of days later and decided to help, even though my experience was minimal. We were able to get a plane designed and flying and the team placed second in the state competition. We were also able to get around sixty or so kids building and flying delta darts. As a community service, the club decided to buy a subscription to the AMA's "Model Aviation" magazine for the school library to keep the kids and their teachers up to date on modeling.

Sponsorship Letter is Ready for Distribution...

The corporate/business sponsorship letter text has been finalized & copies have been printed. If you know a prospective sponsor & would like a copy of the letter, contact Mark Sexton about the details. This program helped pay our mowing costs last season and the prospects look good again for this season. Please remember to patronize the businesses that sponsor us & let them know we appreciate their support.

Amateur Radio License Class Offered...

Tired of waiting for your frequency pin to become available? The Morgan County Repeater Association/ Amateur Radio Club has a class underway for persons interested in getting their amateur radio license. Maybe you've thought about flying on the amateur R/C band and didn't know how to get a license. The class meets weekly on Wednesdays for 10 weeks beginning 3/1/2000 at 7:00 p.m. in the Morgan County Public Library in Martinsville. The class is free and the only cost is for the book & testing at the end of the class. For further information, contact Steve Vail KA9SCG at 765-342-7959 (days) or 765-342-3394 (evenings).

Contest Directors Wanted...

We need a couple of new contest directors to organize some flying events that we can publicize at our field. How about a big-bird fly-in this summer. Richard Anderson used to CD that event in the past and the "Nothin But Cubs" event we had last fall. Richard will be unable to devote the time required this year due to his recent promotion at work but might be persuaded to help out a prospective new CD with some helpful advice. Congratulations on the promotion Richard! Would someone be willing to step up and become a CD? Mike Rollins stepped up last year as the CD for the club fun fly & did a fantastic job. He is currently working on plans for the "2000" fun fly. Thanks for the good work Mike!

Order Fuel NOW!!!

Dave Poland has talked with Dan Winship about our annual club fuel order. Dan is a Sig dealer and gives us a big discount on Sig products. We need to get the fuel order in as soon as possible! It's almost prime time flying season and the huge increase in oil prices lately may have an effect on the price of our model fuel. Get your fuel orders to Dave Poland at 765-342-8397 or e-mail him at dpoland@tecwrite.com. You can check out Dan Winship's web site at http://winshipmodels.tripod.com. Do it now!

An event calendar can be accessed from the clubs Website. Please follow the link on the main page to get there. Anyone can use this Calendar and make a posting to a message board. The only requirement is that you join the Yahoo Groups and become a registered user. Its FREE and no personal information need be provided if you do not want it made public.

The message board is a GREAT place to post items you have for sale and make some general announcements.

There is also a photo album section there. Anyone can post a photo of what ever subject (model airplane club related please) they want! We have made several albums for you to add your photo... or you can make your own!

Please try to keep photos limited to 50k or less. We have only 5 meg of space available to post photos and it'll go fast. If you have pictures that you would like to post, please e-mail them to Lou and he'll get them posted on the main website.

If anyone would like to buy a Club shirt or hat please drop Bruce a line. The shirts sell for $21.50 and the hats are $9.00.
