April 2001 Edition

March Meeting:

The meeting opened at 7:06 and was closed at 7:48. The topics discussed were printed in last month’s newsletter. There were 20 people in attendance. The show & tell portion of the meeting was conducted by Tim Sparks. He brought in one of his very nice, foamie, war bird, combat planes. The mowing season is upon us and plans were made to keep the grass under control. One new member was voted into the club. Please welcome Tim Mellott, from Spencer. He already has his AMA card and a plane or 2. He was seen at the Monroe County R/C Club’s annual swap meet, picking up some real deals & has since been out to the field to get his trainer “checked out”.

Short & Sweet

This edition is going to be pretty short & sweet. I don’t have any new stories or pictures & with all the activities going on right now, I don’t have time to beat the bushes, looking for something. If you have anything, please send it to me for next month.

Library Show

The R/C aircraft demonstration at the Morgan County Public Library is this Thursday (4/12/01), from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00. I have received a “mall show” package from the AMA and Bob Shireman is making the manpower arrangements. Give him a call, if you can help, at 765-342-0480. The regular Thursday evening gathering of the Nebo Memorial Flyers has been cancelled, due to this event. If you are wondering what a Nebo Memorial Flyer is, ask one of them what it’s all about. Currently the group consists of Bob Shireman, Jimmy Vanvleet, Mark Sexton, Dave Poland, Marty Bassett, Charlie Thompson, Randy Byers, Richard Anderson, Bill & Jane Black, Brian Elliott, and a few that I probably forgot. Everyone is welcome. The only requirement is that you have to enjoy playing with model airplanes.

Meeting this Wednesday

The next meeting of the Monroe County R/C Club is this Wednesday (4/11/01), at 7:00 p.m., in the Cook Building (just North of Otis Elevator on Curry Pike in Bloomington). Please plan to attend.

Where’s Everybody Gone?

If you were out at the field on Saturday (4/7/01) wondering where everybody was, the mystery has been solved. The annual “Toledo Show” was last weekend and several local people were seen carrying bags around the Segate Center in Toledo, Ohio, like a bunch of mushroom hunters. I’m sure there were some there that I didn’t see but the ones that I did see, or hear about, were Frank Shears, Tim Sparks, Jeff Regnier, Bill & Jane Black, Richard Anderson, Mark Sexton, Marty Bassett, Dave Poland, Randy Byers, Jimmy Vanvleet, & Bob Shireman. I’m sure there were others that I missed in that huge crowd. I hope everybody had a good trip & found everything that they were shopping for.

Mow & Roll

Not quite the same thing as rock & roll, the club field was mowed & rolled on 3/31/01. It was pretty dry & will need to be rolled again, if we ever get any rain. The grass is beginning to take off & regular weekly mowings will probably have to start before this month is over. Do your “good deed for the day”, while you are at the field. Pick up some trash & take it home for disposal, so the mowers don’t have to stop mowing.
