March Meeting Notes…
The March meeting of the Monroe County
R/C Club got underway at 7:06 pm with 28 people in attendance. There was one
visitor attending & he was interested in becoming a member of our club.
Please welcome Joe Rogers from Martinsville. He has been a regular flyer at Nebo
Memorial Field for some time. Joe has been working with Bill Black on a red
& white Great Planes Cessna 188.
Our Secretary/Treasurer, Brent Hoover
tried to slip into the meeting late but was caught. He’s readjusting to the “day
shift” at work & had missed the last several meetings. Welcome back Brent.
President, Mark Sexton, reported that the
club swap meet in February did make money despite the bad weather. We had a six
inch snowfall the evening before the event & attendance was down from last
year. The club voted to keep the prices the same for next year’s swap
meet.
There has been some investigation into
the matter of replacing our “out house”. Bill Black reported that the company
that serves the Screaming Eagles club site in Plainfield, won’t travel to
Bloomington. Mark Sexton has talked with a couple of different companies in the
Bloomington area but hasn’t found a deal that we can afford, yet. The
investigation will continue & there will be another report next month.
The vote was overwhelming that the club
would excuse the dues for club officers. This has been the policy for several
years but is voted on annually. The officers include; president, vice president,
secretary/treasurer, webmaster, & newsletter editor. There will be no raise
for club officers this year, unless they wish to stand on top of the picnic
table at the field.
The annual bulk fuel order is underway.
If you didn’t get your order in at the meeting, contact one of the club officers
or Dave Poland. The deadline for fuel orders is 4/9/03.
There is another investigation underway.
Many new members are interested in buying club hats & shirts. Several long
time members have out grown theirs. Only a select few have lost enough weight to
buy new ones. The current supply is very low. We will try to get some quotes
& order more hats & shirts.
The meeting was closed at 7:48
pm.
Things you should know…
Tim Sparks is famous. He has an airplane
review published in RC Report magazine & has plans to do more.
Congratulations Tim & keep up the good work.
It was a long, cold, snowy, winter! You
had plenty of time to get your fleet ready for flying season. Spring came right
on schedule. How come you weren’t ready?
Servos work best when they have four
screws holding them down. They should also be tight.
Retractable landing gear work best when
the servo is plugged in.
War birds will fly when they are balanced
properly & the batteries aren’t toasted.
Scale flight take-offs are not leaving
the runway at a ninety degree angle.
Cow pies on the runway can give new
meaning to the term “spot landing”.
Helicopters require more maintenance than
you thought they would.
Dave Poland has a brand new “Montana”
airplane van.
