GENERAL:

November Meeting 08-Nov-00...

Our president, Mark Sexton, called the meeting to order at 7:12:00, in the nice warm Cook Building. We discussed the purchase of an advertising space in the Bloomington Blades hockey team program, as a public service. We checked out the menu from Chapman's restaurant & took a vote on what our selections would be for the Christmas dinner. There was some discussion of the 2001 swap meet & Bob Watson is going to secure the building at the Monroe County Fairgrounds near the end of February, as close to last year's date as possible. It sounds like admission will probably remain at $2.00 and tables will sell for around $5.00 each. Details should be finalized by the January meeting. We wondered what would happen to the club fun fly for 2001 since Mike Rollins is moving away, but Bob Watson & Dave Poland volunteered to give it a shot next year. No date has been selected yet but be sure to give your suggestions to Bob & Dave. We also voted some new members in for 2001. Please welcome Dave Townsend from Martinsville, Mark Kappes from Indy, & Chris Adamson of Martinsville. Dave & Mark are helicopter guys but we won't hold that against them. You saw Dave do a demo flight at our air show this year. Chris is a doctor in Martinsville & is just on the verge of flying on his own. He did a solo hop with Dave Poland one evening at the field & he has flown at Nebo Memorial Field in Martinsville with minimal help. Please welcome these new members when you see them at the field. Elections were held for club officers for 2001. The incumbents all won re-election by a large margin. In order to avoid the court battles & long delays, the first count of the votes was a hand count. It also helped the process along since there was no opposition for president or Secretary/Treasurer. The opponent for VP was not in attendance so he was unable to file any protest, within the pre-determined time limit of 30 seconds. Your Monroe County R/C Club Officers for 2001 will be Mark Sexton as President, Bruce Hoffman as Vice President, and Brent Hoover as Secretary/Treasurer. Congratulations gentlemen & keep up the good work! The meeting was closed at 8:02:14

Christmas Dinner:...

The second Wednesday of December (12/13), which is our regular monthly meeting date, we will have our annual Christmas Dinner Party / meeting at Chapman's restaurant in Bloomington. We must let them know in advance how many people will attend. Many pre-paid at the November meeting but there is still time to get in on the fun. If you wish to attend, you can send your money to our club secretary / treasurer, Brent Hoover at 3605 Cockrell, Bloomington, IN 47403. Brent's telephone number & e-mail address are at the top of this newsletter, as always. Please include your name, the number of adults, & the number of children, from your family that will be attending. The prices are $21.00 for each adult & $10.50 for each child, age five through twelve. There was a communications mix up last month and these prices are a little steeper than the $20.25 & $10.00 that were listed here in the November edition. If you already sent Brent your money, please take note of the updated prices. The deadline for mailing your advance payment to Brent is December 2. You can pay at the dinner on 12/13 but you MUST let Brent know before the deadline so that the restaurant will know how much food to prepare! Fat guys don't want to go away hungry!

Bad Address...

An add appeared last month for an aircraft for sale in Martinsville. I have tried the e- mail address several times & had all messages returned as undeliverable. Several people had some interest in the plane so please note that the e-mail address listed is no good. A few of us thought it would make a good club trainer but that idea went over like a lead balloon at the meeting. Here is the add again, without the e-mail address. A Martinsville man has contacted me about a plane he has for sale. Randy Murray has a Sig Cadet Senior with an OS 40 FP that has never been flown. No radio gear is included. He would like to sell the airplane & engine for $125.00 (firm). You can contact Mr. Murray by telephone at 765-342-7139.

Interesting Bits...

A cub will not sustain flight, in the inverted position, with the power cut! Putting the flaps down (or up) will not help! Jimmy Vanvleet soloed with his Hangar 9 Easy II on 11/12/2000. He broke it on the same day, repaired it, & flew it again before he went home. Congratulations Jimmy! You might think Bill Black looks a little old for his claimed age. He just had a birthday & says he's 35. That may be why he thought that cub would fly upside down with the power off! Happy birthday Bill!

Day After Thanksgiving Flying:...

Several members dug out the cold weather gear & came out to the field on the Friday after Thanksgiving to enjoy some brisk air & some good flying. Some might say they are a little "eat up" but all had a great time. Those in attendance were Julian Robertson, George Williams, Tim Sparks, Brian Elliott, Bob Shireman, & Charlie Thompson. The Monroe County Sheriff that stopped by to chat with us didn't bring an airplane but enjoyed the show. The temperature was around 45F & the wind was from the East/North East at around 9 MPH. The corn is still up at the West end of the runway but the farmers were out harvesting so it probably won't be there for long. The beans to the East & North have been gone for a few weeks now. By the time we get enough snow on the ground to use skis, the approach should be good from all sides.
