Joe's Hobby Center Write-up

The following article is quoted from the December, 1997 issue of R/C Report. It reports an interview with Dave Schiavolin, manager of Joe's Hobby in Farmington. Dave just happens to be the Ribcrackers' President for 1998.

My son was just transferred to the Detroit area as a manager for TRW working with the Keyless entry systems TRW supplies to Chrysler Motor Corp. While helping him with the move to Farmington, my eye was caught by a HOBBY SHOP sign. My quick stop lasted over an hour and I was greeted by a very friendly former pattern flyer, Dave Schiavolin, who is not only the manager of "Joe's Hobby Center" but is also the (1997 - ed.) treasurer of the local R/C club, The Ribcrackers.

The shop is located in a strip mall off of Grand River Rd. and Drake Rd. and is worth the trip if you are anywhere near the shop to stop in and see what they have to offer. Over the years, I have been in many shops along the east coast, and this ranks up there as one of the best. Their selection of R/C equipment was super. It includes a very wide assortment of engines, all neatly displayed in glass cases, out of the boxes. There were over twenty 4C engines alone. Airplane kits lined one wall and ranged from trainers to giant scale. They also carry a good assortment of U-control kits and supplies, as well as rubber powered kits. I bought a box of three indoor rubber kits to use in a local monthly school sessions.

This describes just half of the shop. The other half is devoted to trains, from N gauge to Lionel, and it looked to be as well stocked as the airplane side was.

If you are in the Detroit area, stop in and see Dave and tell him you were sent by "R/C REPORT". Incidentally, they sell "R/C REPORT" in their shop. The pictures I took of the shop are being developed, so I will try to include a few next month.
