is hard to imagine a chemist working without it.

x lbs ingredient A + y lbs ingredient B --> product
Chemistry
x lbs molecule A + y lbs molecule B --> AB product
When making cookies, you can increase the amount of flour, without increasing the amount of sugar, and the product is still a cookie.
But according to Dalton's theory of multiple proportion, if you
increase the amount of A, you must make increase the amount of B in order to make more AB.
