We can think of C and D as "reactants" for the reverse reaction. As the forward reaction "A+B–>C+D" progresses, the concentration of C and D increase, and the reverse reaction increases. A point is reached at which both reactions occur at the same rate, thus the concentrations of each species (A, B, C, and D) do not change.
