Demonstration
5000 to 6000 people, among much youth attended the
demonstration this year. It was a peacefull demonstration.
Many slogans were shouted against the government plans to
tighten the refugee legislation, and against the "transit
centre 127 bis".
The closing of the borders, at the costs of human lives
and against the conventions of Geneve isn't only a problem
in Belgium, but across Europe!
Equal rights now!
Emigrants automatical Belgian after 5 years

Demonstration against racism and fascism
- Racism and exclusion stays a dayly felt reality for
emigrants. Police inspections and racist violence increases.
This is possible because emigrants haven't equal rights.
- Extreme right gets more and more space to spread her
opinions, they become politically acceptable. The government
carries out a some of the points of the ³Vlaams Blok"
concerning the asylum-policy, which pushes racism ahead.
- Emigrants are workers, emplyees and unemployed persons
which fear also for their work and income. Discord undermines
the defence of social security, pay and work.
Emigrants automatical Belgian after 5 years
- The automatical adjudication reduces nationality to
a simple administrative statute.
- As long as the emigrant community hasn't equal rights,
their struggleagainst racism will be useless. By giving
emigrants equal rights, the whole population gets the clear
signal that emigrants are full-fledged citizens.
- On 14 March 1995 Objektief 479.917 got more than a million
signatures for the automatic adjudication of the Belgium
nationality. One year after this historical record we want
to keep pressure on the politicians to realise the equal
rights.
