Gordon C. Wong,
SPECIAL DIPLOMATIC ADVISER TO THE U.S. PRESIDENT,
SENIOR ADVISER TO THE YEAR OF THE CHILD,
P.O. Box 1236,
Vancouver, B.C.,
Canada, V6C 2T1,
February 5, 1988.
Mr. John J. Phelan, Jr.,
CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF
EXECUTIVE OFFICER, NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE,
The New York
Stock Exchange,
11 Wall St.,
New York, New
York,
U.S.A., 10005.
Mr.
Phelan:
At first all i planned to send you further to my original submission was a copy of the corrected page attached to my Christmas, 1987 statement to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and i considered sending it by regular mail.
Then
President Reagan made his regrettable remarks about
"Irangate" on January 11, 1988, followed them by
inappropriate comments about the stock markets and
investors--and we saw the following day's stock markets
drop.
So i prepared a special statement about this and what
you'd have understood about "Irangate" not yet widely
publicized, for U.S. SENATE
MINORITY LEADER Robert Dole, and by its end decided i
should tell him i'd give you a copy.
As you see by
attachment a) to the copy of the statement to Jimmy
Carter, the Acknowledgement of Receipt for my December 16, 1987 registered letter
to P.W. Botha was returned, confirming the letter's
receipt on January 8, 1988 according to it.
When the
developments explained in the January 30, 1988 statement to
President Carter arose, i had to add to the original
content of it intended because of them, and again i decided i
should send you a copy.
I had given Mssrs. Bunting and Hudson of the Toronto and Vancouver Stock Exchanges copies of my June 27, 1985 statement to Bernard Wood of "The North-South Institute", and in light of present circumstances decided they might feel you also should have a copy of it given the continuing instability in the international economic community.
And when President Reagan asked
for additional aid to the Nicaraguan
Contras on January 19, 1988, i decided i should delay this
to you until after the U.S. Congressional vote and should also
provide you with a copy of my March 31, 1986 statement to former
PRESIDENT of "The International Bank for Reconstruction and
Development" A.W. Clausen (referred to in my
statement to P.W. Botha)* as it's readily apparent
its contents would relate to all these present circumstances and
the two affixations on this page (and thus, should emerge in
future anyway).
One notes that the first one reveals that the
influential American banker made his remarks only 16 days before
the disasterous[sic] stock markets crash, and may provide an
additional insight into why the crash occurred.
(TO READ THE TEXTS OF THE TWO AFFIXATIONS TO THIS PAGE, TAKE A BRIEF SIDESTEP HERE FOR THE FIRST AND THEN TAKE ANOTHER BRIEF SIDESTEP HERE FOR THE SECOND.)
-*IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE CHRISTMAS, 1987
STATEMENT TO SOUTH AFRICA'S P.W. BOTHA YET, I SUGGEST YOU DO SO
NOW.
THIS IS A SERIES OF 14 CONNECTED LINKS
(PAGE-BY-PAGE, STARTING WITH THE SUBMISSION'S LIST OF CONTENTS),
THAT YOU CAN READ IF YOU TAKE A
SERIES OF SIDESTEPS HERE.
IT WOULD BE EASIER TO
UNDERSTAND THIS REFERENCE TO MY CONTACTS WITH THE
"INTERNATIONAL BANK FOR RECONSTRUCTION AND
DEVELOPMENT" SINCE 1978, IN CONTINUING AND TRYING TO
COMPLETE MY "INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMATIC
WORK...ON A DIRECT BASIS" FOR THE WORLD'S CHILDREN AS
I CONTRACTED TO IN 1978, AS
THEY APPLY IN "(MY) PRESENT
SITUATION"...IF YOU DO SO.
DON'T THINK THE WISDOM OF THOMAS JEFFERSON IS PASSÉ YET IN WHAT YOU ARE ENTITLED TO FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT? LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD: TAKE A BRIEF SIDESTEP HERE TO SIGN MY GUESTBOOK.
