List of Contents for the September 2, 1986 submission to the Honourable Ms. Pat Carney:

1) one-page statement to the Honourable Ms. Pat Carney, dated September 2, 1986; with attached copy of page containing:

2) three-page statement to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, the Right Honourable John Turner, and N.D.P. Leader Ed Broadbent, dated September 2, 1986; with attached copies of:

3) copy of the May 7, 1985 statement to Mr. Sylvester Stallone*; with List of Contents for the submission attached to the face.

Ms. Carney: I'm not enclosing a copy of the List of Contents for the registered letter today to the U.N. Secretary-General because it wasn't prepared before i had to drop this off at your riding office in order to make sure this went out with Tuesday's courier service.
Actually, i won't decide everything to put in it until this afternoon. As i did get the Acknowledgement of Receipt back for the registered letter to Mikhail Gorbachev today, i'll add an additional note to the U.N. Secretary-General with a copy of this list also.
I decided against referring to "The Non-Aligned Movement" and the New Times special edition about it because the summit is now underway in Harare. I can't really anticipate what they decide to do.
I'm going to be writing to "TANJUG" this month. Attachment b) to this statement to Senator Kennedy is the term of reference for this decision. I anticipate "TANJUG" may pursue the views of "The Non-Aligned Movement" leadership re what i provide them with...and the "policy of silence."
If i decline comment on this here to the U.N. Secretary-General, i can respond to the "Non-Aligned Movement" policy decision in the statement to "TANJUG".
They may well endorse the call for economic sanctions against South Africa, Ms. Carney. But i doubt that they're going to remain so respectful of the Prime Minister of Canada's support for them when they see what it omits consideration of.

4) copy of the August 27, 1986 "off-the-record" statement to Senator Kennedy.

"Surely the time has come to call mankind back to sanity,
to reorder his priorities in favor of life and development,
as against death and destruction."

--Zimbabwean Prime Minister Robert Mugabe,
new chairman of "The Non-Aligned Movement",
as the September 2, 1986 Globe and Mail's
"Quote of the day".

*-SLY STALLONE IS NOT RONALD REAGAN OR POSSIBLY WARREN BEATTY. SO, IN THIS CONTEXT, WITH RESPECT FOR HIS RIGHT TO PRIVACY FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY, UNLESS HE CHOOSES TO SAY SOMETHING ON THIS SUBJECT HIMSELF IN FUTURE, THIS IS A FOOTNOTE TO JUST SAY THAT MUCH OF HIS FILM, 'ROCKY IV', WAS FILMED IN VANCOUVER IN 1985.
I WAS LIVING AT THAT TIME FOR A FEW MONTHS WITH A FRIEND AND HIS SON. THE OPPORTUNITY AROSE FOR US TO BE EXTRAS IN THE FILM WHICH, MOVIE BUFFS MAY RECALL, WAS ABOUT ROCKY FIGHTING THE SOVIET BOXING CHAMPION IN THE SOVIET UNION. MY FRIEND WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR AN OPERATION ON HIS HIP AT THAT TIME AND ASKED ME TO TAKE HIS TEENAGE SON TO THE FILMING.

IF YOU'RE WONDERING WHY I'M MENTIONING THIS--BEYOND THE EXPRESSED CONSIDERATION FOR SLY, IT'S BECAUSE IN FUTURE IT IS POSSIBLE THERE COULD EMERGE PHOTOGRAPHS OF ME AND MY FRIEND'S YOUNGEST SON, IN A CROWD, WAVING THE HAMMER AND SICKLE FLAG OF THE FORMER SOVIET UNION.
AS I'M NOT NOW AND NEVER HAVE BEEN AND NEVER WILL BE A COMMUNIST--AS, SAY, WOULD HAVE RELEVANCE TO WHAT YOU FIND IF YOU TAKE A BRIEF SIDESTEP HERE--I AM JUST PUTTING IN THE FOOTNOTE HERE TO EXPLAIN SUCH A PHOTOGRAPH (OR MOVIE CLIP) SHOULD IT EVER EMERGE PUBLICLY.

AND THEN, ON THE SUBJECT OF MISINTERPRETED ACTIONS CAPTURED BY THE CAMERA, THERE IS WHAT YOU FIND IF YOU TAKE A BRIEF SIDESTEP HERE.
