(Explained in my Christmas, 1989 (May 15, 1990)... submission
to (now former) PREMIER OF BRITISH COLUMBIA
William N. Vander Zalm:
"...i found the following in Bob Woodward's book, 'VEIL THE WARS
Of THE CIA 1981-1987' (copyright 1987 by Bob Woodward)--the
book's only direct reference to :
'With final passage of the new $100 million in contra aid
from the United States, North realized he would soon be out of
business. He had dubbed his private network and on July 24 he wrote to Poindexter that
it was time for the CIA to buy out these assets. North estim-
ated the total value at over $4.5 million, including "six air-
craft, warehouses, supplies, maintenance facilities, ships,
boats, leased houses, vehicles, ordnance, munitions, communic-
ations equipment, and a 6,520 foot runway" in Costa Rica. "All
of the assets--and the personnel--are owned/paid by overseas
companies with no U.S. connection...It would be ludicrous for
this to simply disappear just because CIA does not want to be
'tainted' with picking up the assets and then have them spend
$8-$10M to replace it--weeks or months later."
The book isn't clear to me on the dates it describes, but i assume this is a
1986 chronology."
