History
The REAL Party first announced itself to the public through a Press Release on Women's Suffrage Day, September 19, 1993. Articles were printed in the Waikato Times and the Dominion the following day. A week later a booklet of the Philosophy and Policy of the REAL Party was also released. Helen Marsh, the founder of the party was inspired to take this action by a challenge to women issued on that special 100th anniversary. Women were reminded that the women who worked for women's suffrage wanted equal rights for all and that we still have a long way to go. Those women had the courage of their convictions and the challenge was to follow in their footsteps.
The Party had two candidates standing in the 1993 Election but did not offer candidates in 1996, the first MMP election. Members are, however, still committed to the radical solutions the REAL Party offers. These pages are part of our ongoing effort to make the public aware of an alternative political and economic system which could free us all to enjoy the possibilities of technological progress without abusing each other or the environment.
