YOUNG LIBERALS

Putting Canberra First

Welcome to the homepage of the Young Liberals (Australian Capital Territory Division).

We are based in the picturesque city of Canberra, and act as the Youth wing of the Liberal Party of Australia. Our agenda is to proudly advocate Free Market policies and to secure a future for Canberra based on a "can do" approach to attracting business.

In 1998, we face the an election against the far left-wing Labor Party. Boo hiss. Thiselection will operate under the Hare Clarke electoral system which involves proportional representation in multiple-member electorates. It is very hard to attain an outright majority under this system, so we need all the volunteers, ideas and assistance which we can get. If you'd like to learn more, please browse through our collection of web pages.

If you'd like to help, or offer ideas, please contact the editor of these web pages, Daniel Clode.

Historical Archives

  • Read our condensed version of The Road to Serfdom, the famous book of 1944 which signified the birth of a new form of liberalism, sensitive to the dangers of large and intrusive governments.

  • In 1944, Bob Menzies delivered a seminal address on radio, titled "The Forgotten People". This speech highlighted the plight of Australia's middle class and pointed the way towards a future of liberty and prosperity.

  • After the creation of the Liberal Party of Australia, Bob Menzies went on to become Australia's longest serving Prime Minister. Read about the many election victories of the Federal Liberal Party, including a summary of successes in each State and Territory.

  • The growth of big government occurs by many means. Look here for a summary of High Court Judgements which have centralised the balance of power in the Australian Federation.

  • Poets, play writers and singers have been among those who have highlighted the dangers to freedom which come from abuse of State power. A small collection of such poetry and prose can be found here.
