BILL'S DESERT STORM MARINE ALBUM

THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO CPL. PACK, KIA 23 FEB 1991

"Those men on the line were my family, my home. They were closer to me then I can say, closer than any friends had been or ever would be. They had never let me down, and I couldn't do it to them. I had to be with them, rather than let them die and me live with the knowledge that I might have saved them. Men, I now knew, do not fight for flag or country, for the Marine Corps or glory or any other abstruction. They fight for one another. A man in combat who lacks comrades who will die for him, or for whom he is willing to die, is not a man at all. He is truely damned."

SGT. BOWLING DESERT SHIELD-OUR TEAM WAS CALLED "FURY". WE SPENT 7 MONTHS IN SAUDI ARABIA AND KUWAIT. PROBABLY THE BEST 7 MONTHS OF MY CAREER. FRIENDSHIPS THAT LAST A LIFE TIME. SOME OF THE GUYS I STILL COMMUNICATE WITH OCCASIONALLY. ONE OR TWO ARE STILL IN THE CORPS. MOST ARE OUT NOW. NOT ALL ARE INCLUDED HERE. I DON'T HAVE MANY ACTION SHOTS AS MY CAMERA WAS DESTROYED THE FIRST DAY OF THE WAR DUE TO A MISSLE THAT HIT US, BUT I DID MANAGE TO GET A FEW FROM THE OTHER MARINES. IF YOU WERE WITH US AND HAVE SOME PICTURES, SEND THEM TO ME SO I CAN INCLUDE THEM. SEMPER FI MARINES!

Cpl. Collins~ Assistant team leader, enjoys his pipe. He was wounded in the head by shrapnel on 23 Feb 91, but returned the next day. He lives in Texas now, last I heard.

Lcpl. Hansen~ The best barber in the world even though the blades were old and rusty. He was moved to another team just before the war. I have another picture of Hansen skiing behind a HMMV. We missed the shot of him being dragged on his face in the sand. Don't know where he is now.

Lcpl. Weiner~ Stayed with us through the end of the war. Last I heard he was a Sgt and leaving the Corps.

Cpl. Halverson~ One of the best Marines I have ever known. Earned a Bronze Star with a Combat V on the evening of 23 Feb 91. Got a promotion to Cpl and was put in for a meritorious combat promotion to Sgt the next day. Of course the REMFS denied it. He raises cattled in North Dakota and raises and rides bulls for the rodeos.

Lcpl Glatzel~ They said he was overweight and had processed him for discharge. saddam invaded about a week before his discharge. SSSHAZZAMMMMM!! Suddenly he was not overweight any more. Imagine that. Hell of a Marine. Our M-60 Gunner. Of course as soon as the war was over the REMFS were on him again for his weight. He is a fire fighter in the ST. Louis area now. A damn fine one I'm sure.

Lcpl.Haluzak~ Haluzak was #1 Truck driver. He could dig the deepest holes in the hardest ground. I think he is Las Vegas area now.

Lcpl's Pieri & Tracy~ Tracy was moved to another Team before the War. Don't know his where abouts now. Pieri came to us from the Brig. So we called him Brig. Pieri. He stayed with us all through the War. Last I heard he was in the Brig.

Cpl. Jones~ A Team Leader for awhile. Then left the Team before the War. Don't know where he is now but I will bet he is a Life Guard or a Surfer some where!

Cpl. Peyton~ Also left the Team before the War started. He earned the rank Cpl. while in Saudi. Don't know where he is know.
