Aug31--Musharaf seems in no position to deliver on any sort of deal with even his orderlies the PMlq refusing to cooperate...it can only be a deal without substance...with the military clearly reading the situation a coup seems the only way out...the coup would remove musharaf...appoint a new army chief and bring in a caretaker primeminister to handle the next elections...it would depend on the new army chief what he wanted todo with the presidency ...with an army chief occupying it it has become a useless needless position...musharaf trying to drag benazir along but she would find it difficult to see her men sitting with the PMlq in government ...Benazir has suggested Aftab Mirani as caretaker primeminister in opposition to the PMLq candidates...musharaf would probably need to use the ISI to force the PMLq to join the PPPP in any sort of constitutional amendment...the best option is that he step down and allow the senate chief to become the acting president and than compete as a PMLq candidate or joint candidate after teh national assembly elections...that is the only way he would have some legitimacy otherwise he would just be somebody to control the MQM and to some extent the army..
