Oct19--in a conflicting attitude the people seem unable to understand the duplicity of musharaf in not restoring democracy...A majority seem to think that he should retire from the army while he still leads an opinion poll by 50.5% followed by Benazir 41.6%, Nawaz 39.6%, pervaiz elahi 27.9%shaukat aziz 27.4%...This is an ngo poll in punjab urban and rural areas...and it shows the countries main parties as still having the same level of popular support...musharaf is definitely not supported by 96% of the people...
Oct19-- In what many see as the armies duplicity in attitude...what is apparently good for the army might be very bad for anyone else...The army has acquired from the CDA in islamabad over 2300 acres of land worth over Rs500 billion for just nothing...The land includes villager properties and national parkland...why because the army is frightened of bomb blasts in rawalpindi and wants its generals to have a safer place(pakistani pantagon) to meet...This is almosty similar to land of around 500 acres being given to the agha khan in karachi...The agha khan who has been very popular with governments now owns the Habib bank while the army has teh askari bank...in contrast however the agha khan will charge skyrocketing prices for education as he does for health services...and the army will eat away at tax revenues steadily...

Oct19--Following worldbank orders the PML government has directed Nepra to fix electricity prices at actuals...One must remind Shaukat aziz that electricity is being purchased and generated at much lower prices than it is being sold.The government has been including prices of its own inefficiencies, setting up power plants and such gigantic projects as dams and canals in the electricity purchase price...Now the costs of a government tv channel are also included...it is quite obvious to everyone that wapda used to provide electricity at much lower rates before private power plants and discos etc...Government and world bank/IMF attitudes have increased prices beyond normal and one must suggest that the average price of electricity be calculated and the same be charged to everyone, the army, government, agricultural landowners, fata industry and commercial and domestic consumers...
Oct18--Karachis town nazims complain of mqm harassment and the existence of an mqm hit list...the mqm governor apparently is not a peaceful person in his handling of the police system... many suggest that this is happenning because of the federal government/musharaf's connivance with the mqm's murderous methods...

Oct16--Shaukat aziz is apparently unconcerned whether the indians move on kashmir or not as long as he can earn some money from the gas pipeline...He apparently sees no difference between three months or three years...Musharaf has apparently even put what was upto now considered a settled issue on the line as well...Nobody in pakistan regards the gilgit areas as a part of kashmir in any way... but the army it seems in an effort to prove that it is as indianised as some of its supporters will do anything to show its domination by the indians in policy...The brutal treatment that they received in kargil apparently has shown them that they are very weak in a conventional fight as well...
Oct16--The ruling PML accuses Nawaz Sharif of creating the fauji culture by remploying over 74 retired army officers on civilian positions...Nawaz Sharif who was the direct product of the fauji culture was known tobe suspicious of the corrupt private sector contractor mafias and was known to like the relatively religious group of military officers...The corruption of the contractors and their unreliability in completing civil engineering projects has resulted in the armies FWO and NLC etc taking over even relatively small contruction projects even on a basis of costs plus charges...This has also resulted from the continuous redesigning that takes place in many pakistani projects...
Oct16--The controversial asif zardari who has been involved in all sorts of cases by the PML is suggesting that cooperation between teh opposition in teh next elections might be comprehensive...In the previous elections the opposition was not coordinated and lost many easy seats due to its dubious attutude towards the military...musharaf is now apparently more controversial although many PPPP watchers see little change in teh generals duplicity...
