sep29--there might be some truth to the coup rumours that have widely been debunked by the government...The pakistan army leadership was bought off apparently either by shaukat aziz or the US...many regard that the coup was called off after senior military officers berated shaukat aziz over his opposition to appointing military officers to civilian positions...
sep28--musharaf has backtracked on one of his lies that the GOP was paid for hunting down al qaeda fugitives for the USA...there are so many lies in his book that many now regard it as a book of fiction rather than the memoirs of a controversial coup plotter...it now seems that the USA has made the payments as an increment to its annual grants...musharaf is still in the USA... maketing his book...musharaf also revealed state secrets when he claims that just exploding the bomb did not mean that they had atomic tipped missiles ready in 1998...pakistan is supposed to have had six atomic tipped missiles and around 40 atomic bombs ready in 1998....this was discussed between benazir and rajiv gandhi who jokingly allowed pakistan one atomic missile to india's six... His admission that he created the PMLq to counter the PPP shows the democratic credentials of his army led government...his coup many suggest was advanced when the indians reported that musharaf had told the indian deputy army chief in srilanka that he would soon be in power and that they should be ready to make a deal on kashmir...Nawaz Sharif who had been informed of the coup at least two months earlier when a lt. general related to one of his ministers was dismissed by musharaf summarily...without consultation with the primeminister or president...Nawaz Sharif who had complete faith in his mohajir army chief was so slow to react to the coup preperations that he left it too late and when he did react the army overpowered him...musharaf had also offered to resign after the kargil crisis...many suggest that musharaf kept his plane in the air to avoid being arrested and gave the army time to overpower the ISI chief who had been appointed the army chief...many suggest that the ISI chief was involved in the coup too as he was not kept in jail too long by musharaf...others suggested that the generals had waited for musharaf's removal and as they did not agree with the appointment of the new army chief they decided to side with musharaf...however those generals were quickly removed from their jobs by musharaf to keep the army to himself...
sep27--in stark contrast to the governments embarassed privatisation the Union Bank sold itself to standard chartered for $487 million...the SCBP becomes pakistans largest bank after the National Bank...other small banks being squeezed in the banking sector are also looking for buyers...

sep26--wapda seems to have no clue asto what caused teh sunday countrywide power shutdown however it took them over 10 hours to resume electricty supplies...there seems tobe an obvious fault in the wapda transmission/control system design as it could not control the tripping of the entire system...with the majority of power being supplied thru the 500KV lines with no automatic alternate the tripping of one power station overloaded the rest...wapda needs an alternate standby generating capacity to keep the system stable as well as parallel 500KV spare transmission lines...also there seems to have been no staff present at the majority of grid stations...
sep26--the musharaf book is proving that he is willing to sell state secrets to become rich and the great Dr qadeer khan did no worse... everyone thinks that qadeer amongst many others should sue musharaf alongwith a host of others that he critisizes and maligns...musharaf obviously does not know that Qadeer Khan headed the nuclear research deptt since the early seventies...musharaf seems to have disliked everyone....ali kuli khan a graduate of sandhurst and who was a top student at kakul and whom many regard as the best officer that the army ever produced gets a lot of flack...he finds an army COAS's resignation difficult to accept even though many suggest that jehangir keramat was deeply involved in corruption...musharaf's removal from the army although justifiable is dealt with as if the head of government does not have the right to remove an army chief...musharaf comes across as a rabid anti pakistani and one wonders why he was speechless at seeing p1 drawings with a CIA official...it is also very clear that qadeer was following government orders...musharaf is also unable to understand why his coup and ali kuli's suggestion of one are both condemnable...musharaf comes across as unpatriotic and a person who is a very bad friend especially of those that benefited him over similar others...many suggest hat he would stand no chance of survival if tried for treason...!!!

sep24--musharaf's book portrays him as a narcisstic self centered person unable to grasp realities and tolerate other politicians...he describes the pakistan army in the context of the USA and kargil as a weak unpopular force literally unable to deal with a minor excursion into kargil or handle internal problems in north waziristan or balochistan...after eight years in power no problems have been resolved either with the indians, USA or afghanistan...democracy has been defaced by the pakistan army and musharaf is little more than a tin hat failed military dictator...
sep23--musharaf has apparently again backed down on hot pursuit by american forces into pakistan...the americans have already bombarded several places inside pakistan and there are repeated helicopter and remote aircraft incursions...pakistan has not retaliated which shows that the incursions are being carried out with approval from the weak pakistan army...which appparently cannot defend against the US or indian army incursions...
sep23--in what is being termed the biggest defeat for pervez musharraf .....everybody now agrees that he buckled under the US without any pressure being applied...the USA just gave him a list of things to do in the morning and he agreed in the afternoon...the US and its president have suggested that musharaf is a liar and a cheat and that no threats were made...The US is habitually used to using such tactics to apply pressure and usually earlier pakistani rulers have told them to stuff it...however the brave general buckled under in no time and the taleban the traditional allies of pakistan were told to go to hell..The taleban have been the only afghan rulers to have good relations with pakistan...george bush said that we donot know what musharaf is talking about and that he is probably in the USA only to release his book...it is taking on the look of a private tour at pakistans expense...musharaf apparently getting over 2 million dollars for his book....on the other hand karzai has stated that pakistan is training a snake and is overlooking taleban activities in pakistan...the taleban have never however caused pakistan any problems...
sep23---the mqm many suggest is as dead as other moribund political parties as numerous people were run over by vehicles in karachi and teh crime and violence scene took over politics...the ghunda natured mqm sindh home minister has been replaced as he was unable to control violence in karachi...mqm popularity had soared when it took to the streets to protest the killing of a girl student by a wagon at a bus stop...tribal violence in shikarpur has also caused 23 deaths with teh sindh government a mere spectator...

sep22--This government which is literally unable todo anything straight now says that since they have been unable to get the required investments in power plants... load shedding will continue until 2010...similarly despite a very good economy they need loans of upto $4 billion annually for even normal development...since electricity use is growing at over 10% per annum they will not be able to setup the necessary 8000-10000MW in new power production to meet demands...therefore load shedding is expected to be an even bigger problem in 2010...musharaf in the USA said that he wants trade not aid...that is technically a lie since his government is only surviving on aid loans of upto 4-5 billion dollars per year...in the USA musharaf has run into increasing contradictions as he finally suggested that he had capitulated because Bush had threatened to bomb pakistan...
sep22--a grand baloch sardars jirga attended by 85 chiefs totally rejected pakistan and its present government and said that fighting for freedom was their right and the pakistan army had no right to interfere in tribal jurisdictions...the khan of kalat also decided to move teh ICJ against teh abrogation of baluch rights under the agreement that he had signed with the pakistan government...they however acknowledged that many of them had been primeministers, chief ministers ,governors and ministers...

sep22--the UNDP has severely critisized the underfunded ERP Early Relief plan for earthquake relief victims which they say only got 64% of $270 million...The health sector has been only 35% funded...Despite facial success the effort would take ten years to complete...Around 33000 victims are still living in tents with another 20000-30000 more to need shelter in winter...while people had returned to their devastated homes very few had permanent shelter while most had adequate shelter which was better than last year...

sep17--in what is becoming common knowledge the murder of akber bugti was decided at a meeting between the army and PML senior leaders...shaukat aziz, chaudhry shujaat, musharaf and mushahid hussein all seemed to have been present in the meeting in which shaukat aziz insisted that bugti was fanning a liberation movement and must be dealt with...the consequences were tobe handled by splitting the opposition on the hadood bill...The MMA has refused to accept the bill unless it is according to the ulema committee while the PPPP has refused to accept any changes in teh select body version...one wonders why the PMLq which has never cared for consensus before wants todo so at this late stage...many in the opposition are suggesting that resignations will embroil the PMLq in reelections which might cost them dearly at the next elections in terms of finances and public perceptions..

sep15--in what is being universally condemned is the army and the mqm district rulers especially in hyderabad and to some extent in karachi at the lack of any real efforts to drain water from localities drowned in water for over 10 days...the mqm and army use such occasions for politics however this time they have shown abject failure in handling the situation...mqm district leaders are being critisized for rushing of to england to get their orders but not doing enough on the ground...the army apparently deployed motorless boats...and the mqm could not even provide proper rations...

sep1--in what is being increasingly seen as a repeat of the hanging of zulfikar ali bhutto a political leader of a smaller province was killed by the pakistan army and buried without allowing any relatives near the grave...In what is being seen as the most beastly side of the current regime the military refused to hand over the body to relatives and carried it in a helicopter to dera bugti and buried it with about fifteen people present...earlier the army had made it impossible for any akber bugti relative to live in dera bugti...the heirs wanted the body handed over in quetta but the army led government refused...apparently the body was brought in a casket and buried without anyone seeing the face...army sorces say that the body was in bad shape and only akber bugtis clothes and a wallet was shown to the people present...akber bugti has been the bugti sardar since his college days and died at the age of 79....while not a popular leader in the sense of zulfikar ali bhutto he gained support in the last days of his life as he fought the pakistan army and was suppressed into death as a brave fighting legend... his popularity soared causing the unsteady punjabi-miltary-mohajir government to witness and an unexpected severe reaction in balochistan to his death...
