Just controlling for family size eliminates much of the disparity. Taking this into account, black families earn 2/3 that of white families whereas on the per capita basis, they bring home only a little more than half that of white families.

It is worthy of note that over half of black families in the United States are single parent families as compared to only 1/7 of white families, accounting for much of the remaining disparity of income. And the other factors of education level or average age have not been entered into the calculation.
