"It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief
that human history is shaped.
Each time someone stands up for an ideal,
or acts to improve the lot of others,
or strikes out against injustice,
they send forth a tiny ripple of hope,
and crossing each other
from a million different centers of energy and daring
those ripples build a current which can sweep down
the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."
- Robert Kennedy

Boycotting can be a powerful tool,
since our only value to the power elite is as consumers.
As consumers, we determine what will be sold.

Remember when consumers stopped buying tuna,
because it wasn't "dolphin safe"?
Now almost all tuna is "dolphin safe."
BOYCOTTING WORKS!

A recent boycotting success:
Nike chairman Philip H. Knight has announced
that Nike will "force subcontractors to clean up
their factories and quit hiring youngsters."
In addition, they will arrange "outside inspections
something Knight previously had vowed to fight."
- Peter H. King "California Notebook" Sacramento Bee 5/20/98
BOYCOTTING WORKS!

Will the boycott of Gap justified? The family /owners of the Gap say they are trying to save the forest but environmentalists worry that the Gap is not doing enough to stop clear-cutting and pesticide use.

Check the opinion section for the most recent boycott concerns.

In order to change the world, we must change ourselves.
"But it doesn't make any difference what I do,
I'm just one person,"
the rationalizers say.
It makes all the difference in the world.
Live your life as though it matters, and it will matter.
YOU DO HAVE POWER, as a consumer.
In fact in the present times,
with our democracy corrupted by the rich,
consumer action is at least as powerful as political action.
Yes, register and vote, but also, be a wise consumer,
for in changing your thinking, and then your actions,
you are changing the world.

The Boycott News is a clearinghouse for boycotts.
As consumers, we can choose to buy products
that help finance the push for the school voucher system,
or help fund anti-abortion groups like Operation Rescue.
We can choose to enrich those who use slave labor in China.

Or not.
