How irrational and degenerate our society is becoming. Ethics have been subjected to changeable human whims that are on one side one day and the other the next. One could call something white one minute and then call it black the next. "Truth is relative", we are being told. "There are no absolutes". Upon immediate examination of this hypothesis, its fallacy is very evident. The very statement that there is no absolutes actually in itself is an absolute statement, thereby negating its very own possibility. In logic, if there are no absolutes from which to postulate from, there can be no premises and if there is no premises, there is no logic. Truth is objective and has an eternal quality about it. Truth is just as true yesterday as it is today. Truth is one of the main attributes of God. Furthermore, Jesus personifies himself as "The Truth". If truth is relative and mutable as our humanist friends would like to have us believe, then what follows is that there can be no God who is immutably truth. To do so world contradict their worldview that the independent, autonomous mind is no longer supreme, but rather a personal God to whom they are utterly dependant.
Simple mathematics is a science which is based on the presupposition of absolutes. 2+2 will always equal 4 whether autonomous man likes it or not. He may call it 3 or 5, but that does not make it so. The present notion that truth is relative to the individual can not provide a solid philosophy of education. If this were so, who is to say that a question can be right or wrong? It is up to the student to decide for himself. To take the notion a step further, why have teachers in the first place, for the student can find the answers in himself? Murder mastermind Charles Manson, took this logic upon himself to justify his evil deeds when he reasoned, "Believe you could do no wrong, no bad. Everything is good. Whatever you do is what you are supposed to do; you are only following your own Karma." To Manson, there are no absolutes to discriminate between good and evil. "All is One." This he meant to say that there are no such things as a right and a wrong. Just do what you will and what is good or true for you is good for you. Whether he believes it or not, Manson is definitely evil. If our society continues to adopt the same philosophical worldviews of former extinct civilizations, our path may also lead to extinction as well. The ancient Greeks and then the later Romans adopted the same relativistic worldview that prevails today and as a result, they could no longer progress. Why? They had no firm ethical, moral and firm foundation left upon which to base their laws. Their gods were finite and changable. Only with the acknowledgment of absolutes can a society can build and progress. We can not go forward in science or anything if 2+2 does not equal 4. The only result to such logic that denies absolutes is chaos of relativity. Remember that truth that really matters is objective and not subjective. If there can be only one truth, there can be only one God who ordained it. Truth is not found in yourself, but in the author of it, Jesus Christ. Believe in Him who is absolute and not in yourself and you will be saved from the utter despair of humanistic uncertainty. |
